The Eskimo sledge is made of two runners of wood or bone - even, in one case on record, of frozen salmon (Maclure) - united by cross bars tied to the runners by hide thongs, and drawn by from 4' to 8 dogs harnessed abreast.

In the winter the Copper Eskimos lived in snowhouses on the sea ice, and when spring arrived, Copper Inuit moved off the sea ice and dispersed in to smaller family groups.

Eskimos gave the world the kayak and parka ("anorak" in Britain; "parka" is actually an Aleut term, from the Indian peoples of the Aleutian Islands of western Alaska, while "anorak" is Inuit, from Greenland).
Eskimos have nothing to be ashamed of, least of all their name, and non-Eskimos who do not intend offense should not be intimidated into using un-English euphemisms.
