It is the capital of Eskisehir Province with 710,000 inhabitants (2004 estimate).
Eskisehir is one of the largest industrial centres of Turkey, with several modern industries, producing railway locomotives, fighter aircraft, agricultural equipment, textiles, brick, cement, chemicals, processed meerschaum and refined sugar.
Eskisehir is a railway junction between the Istanbul-Ankara and the Istanbul-Baghdad lines.

Built with the leadership and support of the Eskisehir Bank and the state, the Eskisehir Concrete Factory was one of the major producers of concrete in the country.
In 1968, the members of the Eskisehir Trade and Industry Chamber decided that separate chambers for trade and industry are necessary in order to give the industrial development a momentum and to solve the problems of the industry; and succeeded in establishing separate chambers.

In the early years of the Republic, Eskisehir had basically only three economic outlets: agriculture, flour mills and brickyards, all three dependent on one of the region’s natural resources, its soil.
As a consequence, in 1968, the industrialist members of the Eskisehir Chamber of Commerce and Industry insisted on the necessity and realized the division of the Chamber into two chambers in order to accelerate the industrialization movement in the province, and to enable them to follow the problems of industrialists more closely.
The geographical location of Eskisehir, not too far from the largest consumption centers of Turkey and connected to them by road and rail, has also played a significant role in the area’s development.

Pathotypes of barley scald pathogen, Rhynchosporium secalis (Oudem.) J.J. Davis, were determined based on the reactions of 50 single spore isolates of the pathogen obtained from the diseased leave samples collected from 8 provinces in Central Anatolia and 2 provinces in Aegean Region on 10 differential cultivars in the controlled conditions.
The pathotype which is pathogenic to all of the differential cultivars (pathotype 41) was represented by 2 isolates collected from Eskisehir province.
Distribution of the pathotypes in the provinces varied according to the number of the isolates, in other words the number of the pathotypes increased parallel to the increase of the number of the isolates.
