Essex Road station is a Network Rail station in Islington.
Above ground it is situated in an old building, perhaps the original, at the junction of Essex Road and Canonbury Road.
In the 60s, this became the first station on that branch (considered part of the Northern Line at the time) to be closed on the weekends, as this was the least cared for station on what in effect was the least cared for line.

ESSEX — Lester (Bud) Sweatt of Station Road, Essex, went forward into the arms of God at his home on Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He graduated from Essex High School in 1936, then proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Canadian Northwest Territories, Europe and the Pacific during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.
WINGDALE, N.Y. — Jean S. Manor, 68, of Lake Ellis Road, Wingdale, N.Y., died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at her home.

The first sight which greeted me when I emerged from Essex Road Station was a sign on a flat reading, "FOR SALE Hotblack/Desiato and Co., Islington." Fits of hysterical laughter, even worse than when I found out that "Ford Prefect" was a very popular model of automobile.
There is also a statue of Queen Victoria by the side of the road.
This is the rail station that was built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, of whom there is a roped-off, seated bronze statue in one of the common areas.
