Esther feels she learned how to handle money vis a vis her family from Ziff, useful because Esther is by far the wealthiest member of her family (she purchased a house for her sister in California and regularly hands out her scads of frequent flyer awards to her family members).

Esther Forbes may have been among one of the first American writers who orientated a work around a character's physical disability, but unlike melodramaticists who copied her the disabled Tremain would prefer to triumph over his affliction unnoticed by others.
When Esther Forbes wrote Johnny Tremain, she presented the Revolution not from the point of view of icons cut from stone but took unique personal course retelling the tale as one of a mere boy, not a leader and not an orator, in fact a boy, many do not want in the front lines.

Esther Forbes (June 28, 1891 in Westborough, Massachusetts, USA - August 12, 1967) was a prize-winning author.
By 1938 Forbes had published a number of books; however, her 1943 biography Paul Revere and the World He Lived In put her in the spotlight and subsequently won the Pulitzer Prize for History.
In 1944, her novel Johnny Tremain, about a young apprentice's life in Boston, Massachusetts in the early 1770s, won the Newbery Medal and is one of the most highly acclaimed books for young adults.
