ETH Zurich - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The ETH is a federal institute (i.e., under direct administration by the Swiss government), whereas the University of Zürich (founded in 1833) is a cantonal institution.
The main building of the ETH was built 1861 to 1864 under Gustav Zeuner; the architect was Gottfried Semper, who was a professor for architecture at the ETH at the time.
Because this geographic situation substantially hindered the expansion of the ETH, a new campus was built from 1964 to 1976 on the Hönggerberg in the outskirts of the city.

ETH-Jubiläum - WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ANNIVERSARY YEAR?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Perhaps this ETH anniversary will help revive something of the pioneering spirit of the founders of the Polytechnic in our society and show how people who are bold, willing to take risks and enterprising can make a contribution to a fresh start.
The idea behind the ETH anniversary is guided by two key principles: ETH Zurich is a nationally and internationally embedded technical and natural sciences university, with a leading teaching and research role, whose aim is to shape the future.
ETH community: The members of an institution are its backbone; that self-evident fact is often overlooked.

The Formulation and Predictions of the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The misidentification hypothesis is an utter failure in both logical process and in explanatory appeal, as detailed in the page on skeptical logical trickery and as judged by the inability to explain the most challenging cases, but the ETH is scientifically valid and superior to the alternative.
The misidentification hypothesis has a gaping flaw in its ability to explain the observations, and the ETH is a scientifically valid hypothesis that is the simplest available to explain globally repeating, highly reliable observations by eminently qualified observers of solid objects under intelligent control with propulsion technology irreproducible by human knowledge.
All possible predictions of the ETH have been corroborated, and the inductive process is every bit as valid as the process that led to the Big Bang hypothesis.

Re: ETH Modeling - Sparks   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
ETH needs to be put on a rigorous objective footing so that the subjectivity of "intuitive good feelings" (or "bad" feelings) do not dominate the debate, "without science, without analysis." Declaring alien technology to be "impossible to understand" by humans, and thus not subject to scientific analysis, is a copout.
The whole point of an "encyclopedia" is to provide a thorough overview of a subject encompassing diverse literature so that the knowledge is conveniently at hand.
And this cycle goes on and on without resolution because of a failure of either side to develop the rigorous quantitative frameworks of ETH and other explanations for the UFO phenomenon that can be subjected to scientific analysis.

What ETH supporters do not realise, however, is that even if a few UFO reports turned out to be genuine sightings of extraterrestrial space craft, then the PSH would still be valid, as it would still be the preferred explanation for the overwhelming majority of reports.
For example, he writes: Criticisms of the ETH also came from supporters of the neoskeptical psychosocial hypothesis, which sought to explain close encounters as culturally shaped hallucinations and visionary experiences.
The ETH in Britain In Britain there is less enthusiasm for the ETH among ufologists, but those people who like to read UFO books are quite keen on it, judging by the sales figures for British ETH enthusiasts such as Timothy Good and Nick Pope.
