Enol Intermediates Unexpectedly Found in Flames
In the case of ethenol, not only are the concentrations far too high to be explained as the isomerization of acetaldehyde, but the data suggest that ethenol kinetics in flames are distinct.
Markedly differing distributions of ethenol and acetaldehyde with distance from the flame burner suggest either separate formation mechanisms or differential removal of ethenol as it diffuses toward the burner.
And the increasing fraction of ethenol relative to acetaldehyde with distance from the burner for two flames suggests that the chemical fates of the two are not at all the same.

Ethenol is good, but the amount of land needed to support the worlds energy demand with it would be astronomical.
Ethenol is way to expensive, gas is cheaper, I also use a Gas Generator from time to time, mostly in the winter.
Ethenol, is perhaps one answer to solve a small part of the problem.

with ethenol fuel, those grains would be in more demand, and the surplus would get eaten up, then the government could stop paying farmers not to grow, thus saveing the government money, and increasing GDP.
It showed how you can convert your engine to alcohol with relative ease, and how you can make your own ethenol for fuel (I guess, in a way, that would be moonshine, right?).

Secrets of Fire   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
The researchers discounted this because ethenol (the enol isomer of the carbonyl acetaldehyde) was present at 10–100 times the concentration predicted by equilibrium fractions.
They also found that at different distances from the flame, the amounts of ethenol and acetaldehyde varied independently, suggesting that the compounds are formed by independent mechanisms that proceed at different rates at different temperatures.
The authors argue that the observation of enols in flames will require a revision of standard combustion models to account for their formation and conversion to other intermediates.

A tunable synchrotron-generated vacuum UV beam was used to ionize the molecular beam, and the resulting ions were analyzed by mass spectrometry.
Concentration profiles of molecules generated in the flames show formation of ethenol, propenols, and butenols.
According to the researchers, formation of these enols can't be explained purely by keto-enol tautomerization--the simple isomerization, for example, of acetaldehyde into ethenol.

Yes but if E85 was put into widespread production the retail price of the ethenol gas would be less than the increasing price of regular gasoline.

Scientists unexpectedly discover enols in flames
The primary commercial use of ethylene is the production of polyethylene, a common plastic.
When a hydroxyl group (OH) replaces a hydrogen atom in ethylene, it becomes an enol called ethenol (CH2CHOH), also known as vinyl alcohol.
Ethenol exists only as a transient or fleeting species in chemical reactions, but altered, stable forms of ethenol (polyvinyl alcohol) are main ingredients in latex paints, hair sprays, shampoos and glues.
