It emerges again in Tintwistle, Derbyshire, at the foot of Bottoms Reservoir dam, and at Melandra Castle, Gamesley, it is joined by the Glossop Brook (which takes in waters from Shelf, Yellowstacks and chunal).

The reserve lies north east of the village of Compstall, within the Etherow Country Park (O.S. Grid Ref.: SJ974915).
Access to the bird hide is also available to non-members (permits are available from the Country Park Ranger's Office at the car park).
The reserve covers two main areas, the steeply wooded banks of the Etherow River, and the marshy flood plain at the base of the valley slopes.

A retired man from Stockport, Charles Hamilton, has won one of the region’s top environmental awards for his 35 years of volunteer work at Etherow Country Park.
They are given out every autumn in recognition of the contribution of volunteers towards improving the waters and waterside of the Northwest.
The Mersey Basin Campaign’s chief executive Walter Menzies said: “When Charles began volunteering at Etherow Country Park in the 1960’s, environmental issues were decidedly not high on the national agenda.
