The majority of groups still live next to their long-standing neighbours (often referred to as ‘traditional’) thus names for the Forest People can differ only in so much as they are equivalent labels given to them by different ethnic groups.
In informal discourses, it is often said that, certain peoples such as the ‘Mitsogo’, and the Pygmies ‘are the same’ because of their longstanding relationships and traditional forest hunting way of life.
All over Gabon, Forest People are famous for their songs and dances; and performing troops sometimes come to the capital.

Two of the regional groupings, East and South, had an excess of sequences that were found in a single ethnic group, and a corresponding deficit of matches to sequences from multiple regions.
Because only a small fraction of the sub-Saharan African ethnic groups have been sampled, and there are parts of sub-Saharan Africa that are poorly represented in our database (Figure 2), our database cannot be considered a representative subset of the sub-Saharan mtDNA gene pool.
The extensive sharing of mtDNA haplotypes among ethnic groups from different regions of Africa is consistent with the historical evidence of extensive migration and mixing of African ethnic groups.
