Euler angles are one way of representing rotations in 3-dimensional Euclidean space as a product of three successive 2D coordinate rotations θ, φ, ψ (theta, phi, and psi) about the x-, y- and z-axes.
As a representation of rotations, Euler angles have several drawbacks:

 Diagrams
Euler circles, Venn diagrams, and Lewis Carroll's squares have been widely used for certain types of syllogistic reasoning [Euler 1768, Venn 1881, Carroll 1896].
The system's power also lies in the fact that no additional conventions are needed to establish the meanings of diagrams involving more than one circle: relationships holding among sets are asserted by means of the same relationships holding among the circles representing them.
Euler himself seemed to recognize this potential problem and introduced a new syntactic device, ‘*’ (representing non-emptiness) as an attempt to repair this flaw.

Action (physics) -- Facts, Info, and Encyclopedia article   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
It was the product of the duration (time) of movement within a system by the "vis viva" or twice what we now call the kinetic energy of the system.
Euler (in "Reflexions sur quelques loix generales de la nature", 1748) adopts the least-action principle, calling the quantity "effort".
His expression corresponds to what we would now call potential energy, so that his statement of least action in statics is equivalent to the principle that a system of bodies at rest will adopt a configuration that minimizes total potential energy.

The Reduced Euler-Lagrange Equations   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
For the reduction of a Lagrangian system on a level set of a conserved quantity, a key object is the Routhian, which is the Lagrangian minus the mechanical connection paired with the fixed value of the momentum map.
For unconstrained systems, we use a velocity shifted Lagrangian, which plays the role of the Routhian in the constrained theory.
Hamilton's variational principle for the Euler-Lagrange equations breaks up into two sets of equations that represent a set of Euler-Lagrange equations with gyroscopic forcing that can be written in terms of the curvature of the connection for horizontal variations, and into the Euler-Poincaré equations for the vertical variations.

Using the Euler system we construct elements in K-groups (with finite coefficients) of cyclotomic extensions of Q. The elements have many nice properties, e.g., we are able to determine explicitly their behaviour under the boundary map in the Quillen localization sequence.

Since the complete integral of Euler's differential equation of the second order contains two integration constants, it is, in general, possible to make these two constants fit the boundary conditions, the latter giving two equations which the integration constants must satisfy.
Hence, the general solution of Euler's differential equation, depending on two arbitrary integration constants, is obtained by single quadrature.

Well the problem with the Euler rotation system is that when you specify a particular rotation (in this case 900 degrees through the z-axis), the final orientation is not stored in that way.
So, remember, set up the orientations in the most natural way for the object system and then parent the working system to a Null object so that it can be positioned/orientated in any way you like.
