SFFO - Bluetail Mole Skink Recovery Plan
The bluetail mole skink occurs in suitable habitat on the Lake Wales Ridge in Highlands, Polk, and Osceola counties in central Florida.
Campbell and Christman (1982) characterized Eumeces as colonizers of a patchy, early successional, or disturbed habitat type which occurs throughout the sandhill, sand pine scrub, and xeric hammock vegetative associations as a result of biological (Gopherus, e.g.) or catastrophic factors.
Christman, S.P. Endangered: blue-tailed mole skink, Eumeces egregius lividus (Mount).

The life history of the blue-tailed mole skink is probably similar to the peninsular mole skink (Eumeces egregius onocrepis).
Mole skinks usually reach sexual maturity during their first year, and they mate during the fall and winter.
North of Polk County, the blue-tail is replaced by the peninsular mole skink (Eumeces egregius onocrepis), or by intergrades with that subspecies (Mount 1965, Christman 1970).
