It is the fourth time that the Balkan Marathon Championships take place within the Eurasia Marathon since the event was separated from the Balkan Games/Championships that have a long history dating back to 1929.
Balkan marathoners crowned champions in Istanbul in 2001, 2002 and 2005.

It was a rewarding weekend for the Ukrainian police force when Andriy Naumov added the title of European Police Champion to his second overall place in the marathon, while Valentina Poltavska took the women's equivalent in 2:40:42.
