 Eurasian Collared
Both a White-winged Dove (Zenaida asiatica) and a Eurasian Collared-Dove were discovered in the same area at the intersection of Walker-Lake Ontario and Churchs Rds (about two miles south of the Lake Ontario Parkway) in the Town of Hamlin, Monroe County, NY.
Both were reported to sing repeatedly and move around a small area right near the road, often landing in the evergreens and deciduous trees right along the road, as well as the power lines attached to a pole set back away from the road by the driveway.
A prominent fl collar, outlined in white, was present at the rear base of the neck.

 Eurasian Collared-Dove
The Eurasian Collared-Dove is a fairly recent invader into the state of Georgia, and indeed is not even included in the 1986 revision of the Annotated Checklist of Georgia Birds, although Ringed Turtle-Dove (Streptopelia risoria), a common cage bird closely resembling the Eurasian Collared-Dove, is listed in the Provisional section of the checklist.
Appearing in south Florida as recently as the late 1970's (possibly as invaders from the Bahamas), the "ECD", as they are commonly referred to, have begun an unprecedented march across the southern and mid-western US, just as they did earlier in the twentieth century in Europe.
Here in Georgia, the first document ECD sighting is somewhat of a mystery, but the first report of this species on the state's Christmas Bird Counts was in January 1994 on the Callaway Gardens count.

He allowed that he was not sure if it was really a Collared Dove or just a Ringed Turtle Dove, and that when he had mentioned it, he was advised to pay no attenion to it, that it was surely an escape.
Eurasian Collared-Dove in Montana is a subject I cannot really add any information to, but thought some of you might be interested that the species is showing up at many Texas locations from the coast to the Panhandle.

 Streptopelia Doves
The Eurasian Collared-Dove's original range is thought to have been India, but it underwent a range expansion through Asia Minor and the Balkans during the 16th century.
The Ringed Turtle-Dove (in England known as Barbary Dove) is thought to be a domesticated form (recessive mutant) of the African Collared-Dove (Streptopelia rosogrisea), a native of sub-Saharan Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
Eurasian Collared-Doves were apparently imported into the Bahamas during the 1970s when a supplier was unable to fill an order of Ringed Turtle-Doves and sent Eurasian Collared-Doves instead.

Robin and collared dove fans, The collared doves sure were a dominant species in Worcestershire,UK when I was there this February.
I lke them, though, for their assocation with peace and as a symbol of mother and fertility goddesses.

Birders gearing up to find Eurasian Collared Doves in Ohio might be interested in the news from the south.
Greetings, There are now photos and brief commentary on the Findlay dove from 10/21/02 at http://www.jjhammond.com/kestrel/nikon/dove1002.htm It appears that we have a wild-type ringed turtle-dove involved here as opposed to a Eurasian collared-dove.

Time: 08:50 AM Eurasian Collared-Doves have been seen around Bishop for a couple years, but on 15 Apr we had our best views of one Eurasian Collared-Dove, posing side-by-side with a Ringed Turtle-Dove in our backyard.
This was a great opportunity to see the plumage differences between the naturally occurring Eurasian Collared-Dove and locally escaped cage bird, Ringed Turtle-Dove.
Note especially the Eurasian Collared-Dove's darker gray back, wing coverts and primaries.

Subject: Eurasian Collared-Dove update Nebraska birders, Most of you have heard that there is a pair of Eurasian Collared-Doves nesting in Kearney.
This is the first nesting of the doves in Nebraska that I know of and the second sighting of adult Eurasian Collared-Doves.

Last night I was a little surprised to see a Eurasian collared dove here in northeast Missouri.
In the last several years Eurasian Collared Doves have been documented breeding in South Dakota, even in the more northern parts of the state.
I think that is what my pet dove is. Does that dove have a fl ring around its neck?

At Bennett's Point there was a pair copulating (my face is red), thus proving their desire to perpetuate the species on the SC coast.
The Edisto birds were doing their best to impersonate Mourning Doves (which were scarce) in the campground and picnic areas.
I had not known of this colony previous to our visit there on April 19th.
