I have to admit to reaching for the skip button when ever the initially cringe worthy cover of bacharach's "something big" started, but was hooked after the first full listen, now its going to be used at parties in order to impress and amuse friends.
Eureka's real gem is the albums title track with flawless O'Rourke trademarks, Minimal but effective backward and acoustic guitar, loose but perfectly positioned horns washed in a heartfelt landscape of dots and bleeps, used to create an extremely uplifting tapestry of sound.

Goofs: Continuity: When the 'bubble' hits the trailer with the boy and the dog inside, the expression on the dog changes dramatically between shots (between snarling and neutral).
The pilot for Eureka was watchable, had some good performances, a bit of interesting dialog, and maybe one or two interesting ideas.

This is ostensibly the story of a Klondike prospector (Gene Hackman) who strikes it rich, only to fear that his daughter (played by Roeg's wife, Theresa Russell) and son-in-law (Rutger Hauer) are scheming not only for his wealth but his very soul.
Hackman's McCann character, in a scene with Lapontiere, is in bed looking around at all he has, dissatisfied with what he and his environment has evolved into, retorts "I used to have it all...now I just have everything." A perfect line to express the film's convictions.
EUREKA is, in my opinion, the best film of the three years it was distributed over.
