He was a Plaid Cymru member of the European Parliament for Wales from 1999 to 2004, when he lost his seat in part due to a reduction of the number of seats that Wales had.
During 2005, Eurig Wyn was selected as Plaid Cymru's parliamentary candidate for the Ynys Môn constituency.
The seat was the party's key target seat in the 2005 General Election; however, Plaid had their proportion of the vote reduced and the Labour Party held on to it, all main parties saw their vote fall due to independent candidate, Peter Rogers, who came 3rd and took a large share of the vote.

Wales MEP Eurig Wyn has criticised the UK government for failing to seriously consider wholesale vaccination of livestock during last year's foot-and-mouth crisis.
Mr Wyn was speaking after the European Union Inquiry Team's fact-finding mission to Holland, where officials used vaccinations to protect cattle and sheep from the disease.
Mr Wyn added: "The (vaccination) argument was, of course, based on keeping an FMD free status, but the Dutch decision to use vaccination did not stop them from getting back their FMD free status.

In a knife-edge general election battle with Labour, an opinion poll for ITV Wales gave former Plaid MEP Eurig Wyn 33% support, ahead of sitting Labour MP Albert Owen on 29%.
Albert Owen was elected Labour MP with a slim 800 majority after Plaid Assembly leader Ieuan Wyn Jones stood down from Westminster.
Eurig Wyn, who lost his European seat when Wales's allocation of MEPs was reduced from five to four, was immediately adopted as the Plaid candidate and has been campaigning since last June.

Welsh MEP Eurig Wyn (Plaid Cymru/EFA) is this week calling on the UK Government to follow Spain's example by recognising minority languages such as Welsh within the EU.
Mr Wyn is writing to Tony Blair and Britain's Europe Minister urging them to follow Spain's lead and reminding them that now that many people in Wales regularly use Welsh to communicate with government, it is only fair that they should also be able to communicate with EU institutions in their own language.
Speaking today, Eurig Wyn MEP, a long standing campaigner for the Welsh language in Europe and a prominent member of the European Parliament's Intergroup on lesser used languages, said: "It's high time the Welsh language is at least accorded the same status as Irish within the corridors of the EU.
