Eurocon 2004 took place in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from the 5th until the 8th of August 2004.
Eurocon 2004 was held under the patronage of the Vice-premier of Bulgaria Plamen Panayotov.
The Eurocon business meeting gave to the representative of 17 countries to present their nominations and to vote for the awards in 9 categories.

The absence of the Czechs, the Slovaks, the Polish and the Germans was to be particularly noticed, for in the past years they'd always joined Eurocon in a great number.
All was clarified by an evening of dancing held in the entrance of the Opera Theatre, in which they succeeded to involve Brunner and Spinrad and their wives, made up by a team of girls armed with silver papers, streamers and sequins.
It was the atmosphere felt along the winding path of the convention, an atmosphere of enthusiasm, of importance.

 Worldcon 2005 UK - What is the Eurocon ?
The Eurocon story starts in 1972 in Trieste, Italy, where the first of what was then a biennial convention was run as a stand-alone convention, very similar to, but very much smaller than, its big brother the Worldcon.
As with the Worldcon, each Eurocon is run by a group of local fans under the auspices of a permanent organisation.
Voting for the Eurocon is limited to the delegates of the European countries represented at Interaction, although all fans are encouraged to attend and speak at the meeting.

 EUROCON2005 - Computer as a tool - General Scope
The next conference was organized in Ljubljana, Slovenia, EUROCON 2003 at the end of September 2003.
In addition to a rich technical program, this conference will include a great variety of educational, professional and social activities, overview of IEEE activities and services, as well as opportunities for establishing new and maintaining old contacts among professionals.
Apart from domestic institutions and universities, it is expected that a number of other neighboring and distant partner universities will support the organization of EUROCON 2005, thereby promising large participation.

The fans form local clubs not because they are conformist, like sheep, or because their fandom has not yet reached anglo-american style maturity (I've met both suggestions), but because the legal systems (Roman law) are considerably more jittery about informal organisations than they are about formal ones.
Before I went to the Eurocon in the Czech Republic I went to the Science Fiction Research Association conference in New Lanark, Scotland, near Glasgow.
Quite apart from the Avalcon crowd who put on the Eurocon, there is quite a lot of SF activity in the Czech Republic.

 Review of Eurocon 2002 (European SF convention) by Jim Walker
Over the years I have been to six Eurocons, and I can say that 2002 was a good one.
It was actually held in a small town 100 kilometres southeast of Prague called Chotebor (pronounced Choteyeborsh) but the organisers also laid on a three day tour of Prague and surrounding highlights for the foreign visitors.
The Con itself was simultaneously the Eurocon, Parcon (the Czech national Con) and Avalcon (the Con organised by the local science fiction club, Avalon).

EuroCon is a happening which developed itself thru FidoNet- history: Apparently, sometimes echomail is just not good enough to keep good contacts between regions, so at a certain point in time, it became clear that it would be really nice (if not actually necessary), to organise a European Sysop-meeting.
As matter of fact, EuroCon IV will be a bit different from the EuroCon's before.
It is merely a practical matter to organise UserCon I during EuroCon IV.

I know I'm no graphic talent or professional cameraman and yes there are too many of those and too few of them.
But the coolest thing of eurocon is that, for a short time there are several people around you who know the same (and probably more) crazy things about videogames.
When the dutch wing of the eurocon movement plans to organise a meeting again, I also would like to help actively as an organiser!

Indeed it was fortunate that only 400-450 turned up (compared to the usual Eurocon size of 1,000 plus) as though the halls could comfortably accommodate us, the bar and coffee area would have been severely stretched had the convention been much bigger.
The rest of the castle was a working administrative and ceremonial centre, guided tours of which were available to tourists and (at a special 50% discount rate to the convention).
They did as good a salvage job as can be expected and can hold their heads up high at any future Eurocon; I hope that they make it to the next Eurocon (in Dortmund, Germany 1999).

The convention publications included as complete a Eurocon history as I've yet seen (an even more complete compilation is planned for Intersection), stories by some of the guests, and a bande dessine supplement.
Both Orient Latin (a Timisoara litereary journal) and Jurnalul SF had Eurocon editions in English, Orient Latin concentrating on writers from Timisoara itself.
The 1996 Eurocon will be held in Bulgaria, conditions permitting, with Romanian help.

Jim Walker, hot foot from the European SF Society's Eurocon, held the previous fortnight in Plodiv, Bulgaria, presented the e-zine Science Fact and Fiction Concatenation with a Eurocon Award for services rendered to the European SF Community.
If all this was not enough synchronicity, this year's Eurocon had as its western Guests of Honour Robert Sheckley and Ian Watson.
Sheckley's The 10th Victim happened to be shown at this year's Festival while Ian Watson wrote the screenplay for Kubric's (and then Spielberg's) film AI, which was initially to be based on a Brian Aldiss short story.
