The Eurocopter Super Puma (originally built by Aérospatiale) is a helicopter marketed for civil and military use.
It is an enlarged and re-engined version of the original Aérospatiale Puma and first flew on September 13 1978.
The Super Puma has proved especially well-suited to the North Sea oil industry, where it is used to ferry personnel and equipment to and from oil platforms.

 News: Eurocopter delivers 500th Super Puma/Cougar
At the end of April 1999, the Eurocopter helicopters in the Bristow fleet had totaled 561,076 flight hours, with 47,540 hours in 1998 alone and 24,538 hours to the credit of Super Puma S/N 2028.
The Super Puma is the recognized standard for offshore transport in the 10-tonne category of helicopters and its latest version, the AS 332 L2, is setting availability records for its customers.
As the most recent addition to the Super Puma family, the AS 332 L2 has been designed to integrate new technologies, such as Spheriflex-type main and tail rotors, a new drive system, integrated digital avionics with color CRT displays, a 4-axis duplex autopilot and a crashworthy fuel system.

Eurocopter Romania delivered the first of four refurbished SA 330L Puma helicopters to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 6 July, Jean Louis Mascle, the company's executive general director, told JDW.
The Puma is one of six former South African Air Force SA 330Ls acquired by the UK in 2002 as attrition replacements for the Royal Air Force (RAF) Puma HC.1 fleet.
Eurocopter Romania is discussing with the MoD a plan to extend the refurbishing contract to cover additional RAF Pumas.

The Puma was in production until 1984 and a total of 692 Puma's had been sold by the end of manufacture although they were still produced in Romania by IAR at the end 90s.
In 1990 all Super Puma designations were changed from AS 332 to AS 532 Cougar to distinguish between civil and military variants.
