  Eurodistrict - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A eurodistrict is a European administrative entity that contains urban agglomerations which lie across the border between two or more states.
A eurodistrict offers a program for cooperation and integration of the towns or communes of which it is comprised: for example, improving transport links for people who live and work on different sides of the border.
The term eurodistrict is quite new and has not been defined by organisations like the Council of Europe or the European Union.

The Eurodistrict political process was set in train in the declaration by President Jacques Chirac and Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder at the time of the 40th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty on January 22, 2003.
The “convention on the establishment of the Strasbourg-Ortenau Eurodistrict,” presented this October 17, marks the political resolve of elected representatives from the future Eurodistrict, the first stage before beginning actual work.
The Eurodistrict should develop progressively, based on identified legal instruments as the Karlsruhe agreement signed January 23, 1996 indicates, so as to move towards achieving in tangible ways the stated ambitions of a new dimension in our common vision.

The “Eurodistrict Oderland-Nadodrze” was founded in 2004, when 15 german and polish mayors decided to solve their problems, such as high unemployment, insufficient infrastructure or unused touristic potential, together.
