EuroJet is a consortium of companies from each partner nation and after workshare changes; Rolls-Royce of the UK has 36%, MTU (Motoren-und Turbinen-Union) of Germany has 30%, FiatAvio of Italy has 20% and ITP (Industria de Turbo Propulsores) of Spain has 14%.
Since the EJ200 had not been certified for flight these first two aircraft were equipped with Tornado ADV class Turbo-Union RB199-104D engines (the D signifies the removal of the thrust reversal buckets).
The nozzle requires relatively few modifications or additions to be made to the EJ200; a new hydraulic pump, reheat liner attachment upgrades, casing reinforcement, new actuators and associated feed equipment.

The ej200 is a much newer design and theres still a lot of potential in it (120kn+) whereas the rm12 is at the end of its life cycle.
The EJ200 looks similar to the RM12 (length, diameter and weight), but a higher air flow might trigger the needs to redesign the air intakes, which is costly and time consuming.
Neither the EJ200 nor the M88 are used in single engine aircrafts, nor designed to do so, and neither provide any significant benefits over the RM12.

For example, Munich-based MTU, which is responsible on the EJ200 for the low and high pressure compressors and the Digital Engine Control Unit (DECU), is conducting research in four aspects of fighter aircraft powerplants.
Having completed around 75 hours of tests on the test bench with an EJ200 over the period 1998-2000, the company is now trying to obtain funding for a flight test programme.

Moreover, the Eurojet blades at the front of the low-pressure compressor are much larger than those of the RB.199, and accordingly more robust in resisting incoming hail, birds and other foreign bodies.
For example, the Spey Mk 202, the engine of the RAF Phantoms, had a total of 17 stages of blading in the compressors (5+12 flow pressure+high pressure]) and four stages of blading in the turbines (2+2).

Eurofighter Typhoon - Demon or Lemon?
The aircraft is powered by a pair of Eurojet EJ200 afterburning turbofans, rated at 13,500 lbf dry and 20,000 lbf reheated at sea level, which is comparable to growth variants of the F/A-18's GE F404.
By the same token, the use of higher thrust growth EJ200 engines in the Typhoon alleviates the problem, but it would still remain behind an F-15F fitted with the growth 32 klb F100-PW-232 or its GE equivalent F110 variant.
The Typhoon is certainly not a lemon, although the wisdom of mass producing a high performance conventional fighter of its ilk in a period where stealth is about to hit mass production in the F-22 and JSF programs could be seriously questioned.

Eurojet's (EJ200 manufacturer) answer to the question whether there would be the possibility of an EJ200 powered Gripen.
But the EJ200 on the Gripen is not impossible, we can tell from this, however they need a customer.
The answers were given already - minor modifications to install the EJ200 - already has more power than GE's F404 PLUS the addes advantage of thrust vectoring, which would put the Gripen, as I have said, on a whole new playing level.

Two Eurojet EJ200 advanced technology turbofans each provide 20,250 pounds of afterburning thrust; with a maximum take-off weight of 37,480 pounds fully loaded, this means the Eurofighter has power to spare.
Although it's not actually a stealth aircraft, careful shaping and use of composites and low-detectability technologies (the airframe surface is only 15 % metal) means the Eurofighter is extremely light and has a much smaller radar profile than 1980s-era fighters.
