The following years annual European Championships were held (with the exception of 1998 where the World Championships took place) but in 2001 it was decided to adopt a four-year cycle in which the European Championship would be held on the even years in between the World Championships.
The last European Championships were held in 2004 in Prague and saw a record number of participating nations (12 men's and 6 women's) and thus turned out to be the largest international lacrosse event in 2004.
European Newcomers Championships are set up according to the need and will continue as long as lacrosse continues to expand into new countries throughout Europe.

 European Youth Championships finished - International Korfball Federation
The European Youth Korfball Championships concluded on Saturday in Oeiras (Lisbon, Portugal) with the Netherlands retaining the title following a 17 - 11 win over arch rivals Belgium (whose last win was in Marbella in 1986).
This was the 14th time the championships have been held following their inception in 1973.
The first six championships were held outdoors (in what has now been virtually discontinued as a three-zone, 12 a side variant of the sport) with the modern indoor championships starting in 1981.
