It was relaunched under the name The European Foundation in October 1993.
The former head of the EF's Rome office was Emiliano Carlucci, vice-president of Azione Giovani, the youth wing of the hardline conservative and formerly fascist Alleanza Nazionale (AN).
It was revealed in 1996 that the European Foundation was in the pay of Sir James Goldsmith the then leader of the British Referendum Party.

On Tuesday, two prominent parties in the Parliament, the EPP (Group of the European People's Party) and the PSE (Parliamentary Group of the Party of European Socialists), told the Reuters news agency they would be voting to reject the bill.
The vote on Wednesday in the European Parliament will be on the amendments which were agreed upon by the European Council in May.
They say the European Members of Parliament should vote in favour of the key amendments.
