	On Studying European Law
		The author is grateful to his daughter Dominique Franks, a law student at the University of Greenwich in England, for her helpful material and suggestions.
		The "case method" is ideally suited to studying the common law, which essentially is a body of law hidden in case decisions and waiting to be discovered by the reader.
		One problem is familiar to law teachers in Louisiana — the only state of the United States that truly follows the civil-law tradition: Law professors in Louisiana often are criticized by their out-of-state colleagues for not making more use of the "case method" when teaching Civil Code courses.
