  Europid - Wikipedia

 Europid Information
"Europid" was a 1990s neologism formed on the model of hominid as a substitute for the discredited usage "Caucasian" in discussions concerning physical anthropology.
Among amateur anthropologists, a freely undefined "Europid" functions as a code word that enables discussions of "race" on antiquated bases, as "genetic divisions" to proceed with a scientific air.
Dienekes' Anthropology Blog: "the Caucasoid race cannot be divided into a "Europid" and "non-Europid" branch" or "a subrace, such as the alleged Europid division of Caucasoid race" etc.

CONCLUSIONS--Interferon alfa is effective in the treatment of a proportion of Europid men with chronic hepatitis B virus infection, who might be identified before treatment.

Adjustment for the marked differences in age distribution between Aborigines and Europids by direct standardization to a world standard population revealed a four-fold greater prevalence among Aborigines (8% compared with 2%).
A similar difference was found in a multiple logistic regression model that adjusted for differences in age, sex and other potential confounders (odds ratio for diabetes in Aborigines compared with Europids of 4.5; 95% confidence interval, 1.5-13.6).
High diabetes prevalence in the present Aboriginal setting (with a high degree of Europid genetic admixture) suggests that environmental factors (including diet, exercise, tobacco and alcohol intake, and socio-economic status) also influence glucose tolerance, but no definite associations between any of these factors and diabetes were found.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the prevalence of glucose intolerance (impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes), and its relationship to body mass index (BMI) and waist-hip ratio in Chinese and Europid adults.
SUBJECTS: These comprised Chinese and Europid men and women, aged 25-64 years, and resident in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
The age adjusted prevalences of glucose intolerance in Chinese and Europid men were 13.0% (p = 0.04).

The family histories of 976 South Indian Type 2 diabetic patients were recorded in a questionnaire-based survey to establish whether the excess maternal transmission of Type 2 diabetes reported in low prevalence Europid populations was also evident in this medium prevalence population.
The age of diagnosis of diabetes in probands was lower than that of their diabetic parents (p < 0.001) : furthermore increasing parental history of diabetes was associated with an earlier diagnosis of diabetes in probands (p < 0.001).
These results emphasize the extensive familial aggregation of Type 2 diabetes in this population but fail to replicate the evidence for excess maternal transmission evident in lower prevalence Europid populations, suggesting ethnic differences in the extent of this phenomenon.

The enigma of hypertensive ESRD: observations on incidence and trends in 18 European, Canadian, and Asian-Pacific ...
METHODS: Age-standardized rates were calculated in persons aged 30 to 44, 45 to 64, and 65 to 74 years for 15 countries or regions (separately for the Europid and non-Europid populations of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand), and temporal trends were estimated by means of Poisson regression.
The ESRD rates generally were low, and more similar than different, in Europid populations, except for variable contributions from type 1 (high in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Canada) and type 2 (high in Austria and Canada) diabetes.
In Europid populations during 1998-2002, all-cause ESRD declined by 2% per year in persons aged 0-44 years, and all non-diabetic ESRD by a similar amount in persons aged 45-64 years, in whom diabetic ESRD had increased by 3% per year.

It is obviously the mixture of politics (desire for European-American unity) with science (supposedly Europid unity) that is the underlying cause of this subjectivity.

High plantar foot pressure in diabetic neuropathic patients is a major risk factor for foot ulceration and is strongly associated to the amount of subcutaneous plantar tissue thickness.
Materials and Methods: Fourteen age and sex matched Asian and Europid diabetic patients with neuropathy but without active or a history of ulceration were studied.
Conclusions: The thickness of the soft tissue under the metatarsal heads was found to be considerably greater in Asian compared to Europid diabetic patients and high plantar tissue thickness was significantly associated with lower foot pressures.

Despite a higher prevalence of overweight (body mass index 25 kg/m2) people in the South Asian group compared with the Europid population in the same geographical area (66 vs. 56%, respectively), the 363S allele frequency was significantly lower in the South Asian group (0.3 vs. 3%, respectively).

 Crucial Points at Diagnosis
Formerly, younger-onset type 2 diabetes was seen only in genetically enriched groups, notably Pima Indians and Nauruans (6), but younger-onset type 2 diabetes has become evident in Europid groups, and this is confounding for the initial diagnosis and therapy of diabetes in young adults, particularly in those who are nonobese (6).
In adult-onset diabetes, including cases regarded as type 2 diabetes, there can be a wide range of insulin levels representing hyperinsulinemia to hypoinsulinemia, as well as variations in insulin sensitivity and resistance (1,6,7).
Here, ICA and anti-GAD were measured at diagnosis in 3,672 patients of Europid background selected by family physicians in the U.K. as having "typical" type 2 diabetes.

Digenic inheritance of severe insulin resistance in a human pedigree - Nature Genetics
The PPARG frameshift mutation was not detected in any other individuals, whereas one Europid individual carried the same heterozygous frameshift mutation of PPP1R3A that was found in family A. This individual (IIi, family B) presented with acanthosis nigricans at age 20 years.
This notion is supported by the marked effect of weight loss on fasting hyperinsulinemia in individual IIi of family B. The PPARG frameshift mutation was not detected in 1,034 UK Europid individuals (517 diabetics and 517 controls).
Given the rarity of this mutation, further large multicenter population genetic studies are required to test this hypothesis.

The new IDF criteria for the metabolic syndrome have addressed this issue.
However, the lower cutpoints in Europids than in Caucasians in North America is problematic because there is not evidence that Europids are more susceptible to metabolic abnormalities than are Caucasians in North America.
