The Daily Vault Album Reviews : Europop
That's the case with their debut disc Europop, which does have songs on it that will be hard to get out of your brain once you've heard them.
While the bulk of Europop is enjoyable, it bothers me that there is a lack of original thought that permeates the album.
Europop is the kind of album that is a guilty pleasure, and even if you stand there (as I once did) and declare you hate that "Da Ba Dee" song, after just one listen to this disc you might be willing to say that there's more to this band.

This is an album for the eccentric techno listener and those who know good music nobody likes when they hear it.
On first run-through, the one-trick-pony-ness of this effect is off-putting, and yet it is the album's one distinctive element.
The songs on Europop live up to the album's broad moniker, skimming the basics of tried-and-true dance-pop ("Living in a Bubble," "Now Is Forever"), techno ("Dub in Life," "Another Race"), and acid house ("Europop").

Everybody will recognise the album's greatest track, "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" after it shot up the single charts last summer and became an instant dancefloor hit.
Europop is influenced heavily by pop-culture themes, with endless Internet and 21st Century references, but at the end of the day there are few new ideas and the electronic voice that found fame on "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" is so over-played on every track that you will end up hating it.

The closer, "I'm a Marionette," however, is a startlingly bold attempt to recast the influence of Kurt Weill in a hard rock mode, ending The Album on a high note, musically and artistically.

Eiffel 65's vocoder-heavy Europop, which yielded the major international dance smash "Blue (Da Ba Dee)," falls somewhere in the dance music spectrum between Daft Punk and the Vengaboys.
It employs funky, deep house grooves with vocoder enhanced vocals, similar to Daft Punk and Modjo, yet many of the songs incorporate nursery rhyme choruses and solid pop stylings.
This album really succeeds, however, when the formula is stretched and the act tackles different musical styles.

Eiffel 65 took over the Eurodance scene with the infectious single "Blue (Da Ba Dee)," an eminently likable tune around which this album is crafted.
Eiffel 65 proves that it is capable of at least one more wicked hook with the sugary "Too Much of Heaven." The album's true find is the orchestral "Living in a Bubble," which balances the sing-song rap styles of oh, say 1992, with a captivating musical loop reminiscent of P.M. Dawn meets the Soup Dragons.
EUROPOP is more than just that, an appealing debut by a group that joins artists such as Les Ryhthmes Digitales and Alex Gopher in mining the '80s for dance nuggets.
