Eurowings is a fast growing airline, and already operates the largest ATR fleet in Europe.
Eurowings' long and successful history of more than 10 years of ATR operations started with the ATR 42-300 version, which was used by its predecessor companies -- NFD and RFG -- beginning in 1986 and 1987, respectively.

Lufthansa is close to taking a large minority stake in Eurowings, Germany's largest independent airline, in a bid to stem the loss of lucrative business traffic to rivals KLM and Air France, according to today's London Financial Times.
The agreement between Lufthansa and Eurowings is subject to approval by the Lufthansa Supervisory Board on 6 December 2000.
Eurowings will also be a member of Miles and More and thus become the 28th partner airline to participate in Lufthansa's frequent flyer programme.

The pilots of eurowings are earning less than pilots of Cityline and these pilots are earning less than pilos at Lufthansa.
So Lufthansa will work for a solution and for the possibility to operate "smaller aircraft" (like the B717) by subsidiaries and eurowings is looking to replace their BAe146´s by Boeing 717´s or by the 18 AVRO RJ85´s of Lufthansa Cityline.
