  Modern Euskadi
The term "Euskadi" is a neologism used by modern-day Basques to describe the Basque Country, in particularly the modern and institutionalized Basque Country.
Euskadi is quite rich -- an estimated 2001 GDP per capita of 54 500 écus places Basque living standards at 110% of the European Confederation average and 120% of the Spanish average.
Euskadi's economy, then, is quite diversified; as in the Paisos Catalans, the near-universal fluency of Basques in the French and Spanish languages has allowed Basques to take an active role in the world economy and to enjoy significant economic growth.

 Frontline 13 –
Half of this territory is in Navarre, 7,200 km2 in Euskadi and 2,800 km2 in the French Basque provinces.
Euskadi is one of the most economically developed areas of the Spanish state.
This rapid industrialisation produced the same social changes in Euskadi as it did in the rest of the world: a shift from agriculture to industry, an exodus from the countryside into the cities, a new social class, the urban proletariat.

Web Eustat. About the Autonomous Community of Euskadi
The Autonomous Community of Euskadi is located in the north of the Iberian Peninsula, bathed by the Cantabrian sea; bordering with the Autonomous Communities of Cantabria, Castilla-León, La Rioja and Navarre, and also with France.
The Autonomous Community of Euskadi is divided into three Provinces, Vitoria-Gasteiz being the administrative capital, where the offices of the Basque Government and Basque Parliament are located, while Bilbao is the judicial capital, where the Higher Justice Courts of the Basque Country are seated.
In the Autonomous Community of Euskadi there are two official languages: Spanish, the offical language of the State, and Basque (Euskara or euskera), the native language of the Country, also spoken in the Community of Navarre and in the French Basque Country, situated in the French area of Aquitaine.

 Development of Euskadi
The Basque Country (now known as Euskadi) is located in southwestern Europe on the shores of the Bay of Biscay on the Franco-Spanish border.
The populations of the inland provinces of Behe-Nafarroa and Zuberoa were less affected by this immigration and remained mostly Vascophone, but in rich Labourdin province and Bayonne département as a whole Basques became a minority.
The resulting crackdown by the French government upon ETA adroitly separated the vast majority of French Basques from the pro-ETA minority by finally extending state funding to the ikastolas and providing other Euskara-language public services in the interior provinces.

Behind the Elections in the Basque Country
Yet in Euskadi, the question must surely be first the nature of the Euskadi of the future, not the nature of the Spain of the future.
What needs to be fought for is a government in Euskadi, and in Navarra, and in the provinces of Iparralde, which will assert—politically, not through guerillarist foolishness, the right to national self-determination of the people of the areas concerned.
That is, we thought that the option to replace the old politico-juridical framework designed during the reform of the dictatorship and in existence for the last 20 very long years, and the decision to take steps in favour of a new politico-juridical framework based on a democratic option for Euskal Herria, were ripe.

So confident was the PP of being able to pull off a big win that Spanish interior minister Jaime Mayor Oreja resigned to contest the post of Basque premier (lehendakari).
Despite a vast campaign in their favour by the media, judiciary and the “intelligentsia” and despite the support of the Spanish crown and even the main national trade union confederations, the PP only managed to gain one seat.
