Eustace first encounters Edmund and Lucy who had come to stay with his family while their parents are on holiday.
Eustace does not like Reepicheep, and believes him to be some kind of circus act rather than the free Narnian that he is. When Caspian, Edmund, Lucy, and Eustace are taken captive and sold as slaves, the slave traders could not even give Eustace away.
As a dragon, Eustace is very useful and helpful to the crew of the Dawn Treader as he is able to get a large tree that they needed for repairs and catch goats for their meals, but he is lonesome and wishes that he could talk with the others.

 Eustace Scrubb is a thoroughly nasty, self-absorbed little boy who finds himself, with his cousins Lucy and Edmund, on an adventure in the land of Narnia.
Early in the book Eustace avoids some hard work helping to repair their sailing ship, by wandering away from his companions.  He stumbles upon a dragon's lair and the hoard of treasure kept by the dragon.
In the course of being a dragon Eustace realizes what a nasty human being he's been and how much he needs the other people towards whom he has been so beastly.  Then, one night Eustace is lying awake, "wondering what on earth would become of me."  He sees a huge lion coming towards him.

The owls help Jill and Eustace by flying them to the land of the Marsh-Wiggles, who were “a people who like privacy.” They lived by “little islands covered with countless channels of water.” They meet a solemn Marsh-Wiggle named Puddleglum who is “all arms and legs”.
