Topic: Eutropia

In the News (Sat 2 Jun 12)

Eutropia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eutropia was the name of two women on the Constantinian dynasty, which ruled over the Roman Empire at the beginning of the 4th century.
They had two children, Maxentius and Fausta, while elder daughter Theodora was probably the product of a previous marriage of Eutropia.
She married Virius Nepotian, consul in AD 336, and bore him a son, Nepotianus, who later became a short-lived Roman usurper, when Magnentius was proclaimed emperor in AD 350; after a period of twenty-eight days in early June AD 350, Nepotianus was killed, and probably this led to execution of Eutropia by Magnentius' order.

Cephalorhynchus eutropia has been called a rare dolphin, but perhaps it has been seldom seen because of the lack of boat traffic and of trained observers in the channels, and because of its shy, evasive behaviour.
Cephalorhynchus eutropia is included in Appendix II of the CMS (see "links"): the range of this species may extend beyond the Chilean border into Argentinean waters in the Beagle channel and at the entrance of the Strait of Magellan near Cabo Virgenes and Cabo Espiritu Santo.

It is perhaps wrong to say that Constantine was influenced by Helena and Eutropia when it came to Christianity, but there is no question that Constantine acted in tandem with Helena and Eutropia when it came to manifesting Christian churches.
I think it is clearly implied that Constantine sooner trusts Eutropia than the Christian bishops, and, moreover, Eutropia provided Constantine with a further occasion to demonstrate his superiority over the bishops.
And, I see Eutropia, because of her long Imperial life and vast experiences, as the person closest to Constantine who knew 'everything'--she knew the Empire and its many places and how it all worked (literally and symbolically), and she probably knew who owned what.

I think Polo uses Eutropia to describe one thing that is always constant in life; change.
By saying that "Eutropia remains always the same," I believe he is saying that in a life like this which obviously exaggerates the level of change that a person experiences, sometimes the only definite to be counted is some sort of change.
