Austrian court orders Slovakian nuclear station to conform to safety norms
The Vienna regional court confirmed that it has ruled in favour of the spokeswoman of the opposition Green Party, Eva Glawischnig, who brought a complaint in 1998 that the plant constituted "a danger to the people and the property" of neighbouring Austria.
She said the ruling set a precedent because it was the first time in the history of the European Union that a court has ruled that a nuclear plant in one country could pose a danger to the people of another.
Glawischnig said "there was not a shadow of a doubt" that the ruling should be obeyed by Bratislava.

 Radio Prague - News
The meeting, which was initiated by the Austrian government in an effort to diffuse growing public concern over safety at the Temelin nuclear power station, was reported to have been stormy from the outset, with booing, jeering and whistling.
Environmental activist Eva Glawischnig later told the CTK news agency that the attitude of the Czech delegation was "an insult to the Austrian public" and that the director of Temelin had acted as if the Iron Curtain was still in place.
The meeting, described earlier as an effort to pave the way to a successful summit between the two countries' heads of government, which is due to take place on December 12th has thus been deemed an overall failure.

A group of Austrian deputies visited the controversial Soviet-designed power station yesterday but failed to convince the company and Czech members of parliament that the startup should be delayed until an environmental impact assessment study is done.
Eva Glawischnig, deputy head of the environment committee of the Austrian parliament, told a news conference that the visit could not clear Austria's doubts about the power station.
Glawischnig added that the Austrian delegation was also disappointed that CEZ had proceeded with testing of Temelin's 1,000 megawatt reactor early yesterday, which made it impossible for the Austrians to inspect the plant's containment area.

Central Europe Review - Nuking the Neighbours
More worrying for the Czechs, however, is the cross-party consensus that has emerged in Austria on the issue, and the opposition Social Democrat and Green parties have both bemoaned the Czech decision to put Temelín online and have called on the government to adopt a strong anti-nuclear (if not anti-Czech) stance.
For instance, it was the Green environment spokesperson, Eva Glawischnig, who first suggested on Thursday that "economic pressure" could be exerted on the Czech Republic, in order to force Temelín's closure.
Also, Chancellor Schüssel and his foreign minister, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, who have repeatedly argued in the past that the nuclear safety question would not lead to an Austrian veto on Czech membership, seem suddenly not so adamant about their stance.
