Evan Dando - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Evan Griffith Dando was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 4, 1967.
The Lemonheads were formed by Evan Dando and Ben Deily, in high school, at the Commonwealth School in Boston circa 1986.
Dando became a figure of fun, infamous for showing up anywhere and anytime with an acoustic guitar stuck to his chest, and constantly appearing in the pages of the music press with the equally winsome Juliana Hatfield.

The Lemonheads began churning out the tunes around 1986 when Evan Dando was still in high school and found he had a silky smooth voice perfect for their style of bittersweet pop that was almost seductive in its simplicity.
And break they did, Dando's face was everywhere, every move he made, every girl he dated and yes, every drug he did ended up in the papers.
Dando is back to face the music and to answer the question -- what the heck have you been doing for the past three years?

The first time I saw Evan Dando perform in London in 1993, it was to a packed house where, if you weren't into moshing, you kept the hell out of the way of stage-front.
It was also the beginning of a slow but inexorable slide into a drug-induced abyss for Dando, the proverbial lost weekend, which lasted the better part of the next three years, culminating with a stay in Boston's Silver Hill Hospital after Dando suffered a breakdown in Sydney, Australia.
Dando appeared a little after 9:00 p.m., which was a relief since his reputation has him often arriving as late as two to three hours behind schedule.

Evan Dando - June 11th, 2003 in Cambridge, MA
When Evan Dando finally poked his head out on stage, he was welcome by voluminous applause.
While the exhibition of The Evan Dando Show was primarily responsible for coaxing me out on a dreary mid-week evening, any satisfaction that I may have found in the lurid nature of the performance was immediately trumped by Dando's spellbinding musical vision.
Not because Boston's Evan Dando was on stage but because a gifted performer was directly relaying his art to the audience in a language they both shared.

But, by 2000, Dando was healthy enough to return (joking that he'd spent the past few years "doing monitors for Enya"), as he appeared with old pals the Blake Babies and played several solo acoustic shows.
Dando also penned an as-yet-unreleased song with members of Oasis, titled "Purple Parallelagram," sometime during the mid-'90s (the song was to be originally be included on Car Button Cloth, before Oasis demanded it be omitted).

Evan Dando, former vocalist with Boston-based band The Lemonheads, hit bottom in the 1990s with a destructive lifestyle of drugs and drinks.

The "Evan Dando is Alive And Presumably Well" revival show came to town last week, and what a fine time it was indeed.
Dando was on guitar and vocals, Juliana Hatfield (ex-Blake Babies) handled bass and added some half-hearted backup vocals (sound troubles?), Chris Brokaw (ex-Come, Codeine, currently Consonant, the New Year) added country fills on lead guitar, and George Berz ("of Westville, Massachusetts," as Dando introduced him) pounded the drums.
Dando's voice sounded a bit thin (under rehearsed?), and Hatfield kept a distanced, mother-like eye on him, as if she had to keep him on track or something.
