Evan Mecham (pronounced [ɛvɑn ˈmikɑm]) (born May 12, 1924) is a former American politician and the 19th governor of Arizona.
Evan Mecham was born to Mormon parents in Duchesne, Utah.
On 4 April 1988, the Senate convicted Mecham for obstruction of justice by a vote of 21 to 9, and for misusing government funds by a vote of 26 to 4.

In April 1988, Mecham was convicted by the Senate of obstructing justice and misusing $80,000 in state funds.
Mecham, who was acquitted of all related criminal charges, became the first U.S. governor to be impeached and removed from office in 59 years.

The experience that explicitly changed my opinion of the news media was when I managed to somehow finagle an interview with then Arizona governor Evan Mecham who was quite unpopular in the late 80's due to his cancellation of the Martin Luther King state holiday there.
As soon as my advisor found out that I had obtained an interview with the governor she changed the parameters of the interview so that it would just be another attack of Governor Evan Mecham which was the popular "in" thing to do at that time.
This, with other later experiences with the news media, has shown me that the news is truly not interested in finding the true or airing all sides of the story even if such view or version would be unpopular with the audience.
