In an October article in VELKD Informationen, the information office of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany (VELKD), Johannesdotter pointed out that there has been a "far-reaching convergence among the Protestant churches" through the Leuenberg Concordat under which Lutheran, Reformed and United churches recognize one another as churches and share pulpit and table fellowship.
The Lutheran churches saw the Reformation confessions as "more or less finished" as stated at that time, while the Reformed churches' view was that they were not finished and would have to be updated through the writing of new confessions for the present time.
Thus Johannesdotter explained, Lutheran churches worldwide are united by their self understanding, and they seek fellowship with those of like confession in organizations such as the VELKD.
