Evangelism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Koine expression for good news, εὐάγγελιον ("eu-angelion") is used to refer to the four Gospels in the New Testament; and thus the Evangelists are also the authors of the four Gospels -- traditionally known as Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
Sometimes, the regular minister of a church is called an evangelist in a way that other groups would typically use the term pastor.
In common parlance, the title of evangelist is most easily associated with those who lead large meetings like those of Billy Graham, possibly in tents or existing church buildings, or those who address the public in street corner preaching, which targets listeners who happen to pass nearby on the street.

 Discovering the True Evangelist
The evangelist is a persuader, born of the conviction that a person without God is headed for eternal punishment.
Yet a successful evangelist, who is well known because of his achievement in exercising his evangelistic gift, is often elevated to leadership within an organization, a college or seminary, a mission, or a denomination.
Evangelists are on the endangered species list, from the human perspective, and on their way to extinction.

What in the world is a Catholic Evangelist?
In addition, the ministry of the evangelist is an office, a specific calling and a charism which should be recognised and commissioned by the Church.
The ministry and role of the evangelist is to proclaim the Gospel, bring the people to accept their salvation through Jesus Christ, empower them by the Holy Spirit and hand them on the pastor for their ongoing nurture and instruction in the believing community where they live.
The evangelist can be a breath of fresh air for the people and can usually say things and cover topics that the pastor dare not lest he be rejected.

Evangelists are to bear the burden for lost souls, for lost communities, and for lost nations.
The evangelist is to come alongside the pastor, using the gift and office of evangelist, and assist the pastor in the instruction and edification of the flock.
Ethical conduct being foremost, the evangelist must be wholly dependent upon the Lord for his meetings, and be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in where he is most needed, and where his ministry will be most effective.
