UC Berkeley : Landscape Heritage Plan
The Mining Circle area is comprised of a sloping plaza framed on the north by the Hearst Memorial Mining Building, on the east by the planned Stanley Hall Replacement Building, on the west by Evans Hall, and on the south by the north facades of Pimentel Hall, Tan Hall, and Campbell Hall.
The ensemble of building and landscape stands as a benchmark to the most character-defining period of UC Berkeley, the beaux-arts neoclassical, and reconfirms the center point from which the built environment of the Classical Core began.
The Mining Circle was designed as a companion piece to the Hearst Memorial Mining Building, originally commissioned by Phoebe Hearst in honor of her late husband, Senator George Hearst.
