CrimethInc. Ex-Workers' Collective : evasion - reviews   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Evasion not only challenges the assumptions of what it means to survive, but also what it means to truly live.
While the book is focused upon the life of the author, it is more acutely focused upon the politics of living and the ability for people anywhere to drastically change the ways in which they live.
The book serves as a both a blueprint for how to live outside of the market (providing excellent advice about dumpster diving, squatting, stealing from corporate chain-stores, freight hopping, etc.) and also as an invitation to those of us trapped within the tumultuous cycles of work and consumption.

The Urban Institute | Encyclopedia of Tax and Tax Policy | Sample Entry | Tax Evasion
Evasion creates misallocations in resource use when individuals and firms alter their behavior to cheat on their taxes.
Evasion may contribute to feelings of unfair treatment and disrespect for the law, creating a self-generating cycle that feeds upon itself and leads to even more evasion.
At the same time, the opportunities for evasion have increased, as reflected in a large increase in the number of tax returns (especially those of individuals with "large" incomes) and in the increased use of illegal tax shelters or questionable individual and corporate tax practices.

Other Types of Evasion Types of evasion that are not readily detectable through audits inclucle bootlegging, operating a vehicle at (legal or illegal) weights that are higher than the maximum weight for which fees are being paid, or registering vehicles in incorrect categories in order to qualify for exemptions or tax-rate reductions.

The book doesn't seem to know whether it's supposed to be about Fischer, chess itself, or the socio-political conditions culminating in what organizer Gudmundur Thorarinsson was billing as "the Match of the Century."
According to Edmonds and Eidinow, the problem with seeing the match as a confrontation between capitalism and communism was that neither of the competitors was at all suited to represent his nation's ideology.
He surfaced after September 11th to shout "Death to America!" on an Indonesian radio station, and is currently being held indefinitely and without charge at a detention center outside a Japanese airport after trying to leave the country on a revoked US passport.

Nat' Academies Press, Transforming Post-Communist Political Economies (1998)
Evasion of "good" rules (such as those against violent crimes) will be met with tighter enforcement, whereas the political cost-benefit ratio favors the abandonment (or massive reform) of socially inefficient policies.
A further consideration in the relationship between rule evasion and reform is the extent to which evasion is visible or understood by policymakers.
While individual acts of evasion tend to be hidden, the existence of widespread evasion often becomes common knowledge—as was the understanding of the informal economic system in the Soviet Union.

Books touting how to build bombs and make drugs are not banned, for instance, and even the book "Hit Man: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors" was not banned.
But Schiff's book is a different matter, argue some constitutional law experts, because it is based on his political philosophies, contains warnings that tax evasion can lead to prison and is not likely to immediately incite unlawful action.
