When the band is first seen playing live in the basement, a rhythm guitar is heard, but no one is seen playing it.
Band on the Roof is an allusion to a Beatles Song and their bandmate Paul McCartney also rerecorded it.

Even with the hindsight and clarity of nearly nineteen years, it is difficult to describe the impact the Knack had on radio, fashion and rock and roll.
The bands second effort, But The Little Girls Understand (released less than eight months after their debut) was recorded in two weeks, immediately went gold and sported a top 40 single "Baby Talks Dirty".
The energy which had introduced the band to the world had been depleted as the band had to defend their success to a press corp wary of their "instant" fame.

 purevolume™ | Even The Less
Enter Even the Less; a band that has been through many changes in it's short history but has always been determined not to end the music.
With the absence of a lead singer, Even the Less was on a search for the person that would give the band it's voice.

 Adjudication
Band Newsgroups like rec.arts.marching.band.high-school and alt.marching-band.texas are deluged with posts questioning the decisions of the judges of BOA, ISSMA, EMBA, USSBA, UIL, TOB, COB, DCI and every other marching contest sponsor.
These judge-bashing band members may not be expressing their own original ideas but rather those they have picked-up from adults.
If you give 1st place to the band that 2 out of the 3 judges thought was the winner then you give 2nd place to the band with the higher score.

Seth Rogovoy: The Legacy of The Band
Both volumes are must-reading for fans of The Band or students of American popular music, and Hoskyns' volume in particular breaks ground as a serious, conventional treatment of the history of a rock band.
The Band began life as The Hawks, fate having brought the five musicians together, one at a time between 1959 and 1961, into the rock 'n' roll finishing school that was Ronnie Hawkins' backup band.
As I write this in the summer of '95, The Band is touring the summer circuit throughout the country, at festivals and theaters and fairs, occasionally holding down the opening slot on a bill with other groups from their era, such as the Grateful Dead.

 Dave Hopkins: The Band Remasters
I prefer the full band arrangement, but it's nice to hear Richard's piano up front in the recording; too often, his solid playing was buried on the Band's albums.
The Band's version of Big Bill Broonzy's "Key to the Highway" is by no means terrible, but it's a crime compared to what the group could have done with the song, one of my favorite blues standards.
The Band chose three songs from this master ("All La Glory," "The Shape I'm In," and "The Rumor") for the original 1970 Capitol LP; Capitol has used these same three mixes for the 2000 CD reissue, and has also included a fourth ("Time to Kill") as a bonus track.

The Battlefield Band - Biography - AOL Music
The Battlefield Band has proven to be one of the longest running institutions of Scottish music.
At their inception in 1969, they were one of the most adventurous young groups around, mixing traditional music with some rock and pop, and even in the time since, they've remained somewhat abreast of trends, although not as much as those who've followed in their footsteps and sometimes overtaken them.
Even so, it took several years for a new identity to assert itself, until 1997's superb Across the Borders, which found them once again at the height of their powers.

 The Band
Yes, "the Band" got that name by serving on the road as "Bob Dylan and the Band" from 1965 on, although the master used them rarely in the studio (Blond On Blonde is a major exception).
In the end, the Band made its mark not with virtuosity, but with solid, workmanlike, carefully collaborative distillations of diverse influences that other acts were afraid to touch.
In 1975 a set of eight Band tracks (almost an album's worth) were hidden in the official release of the Basement Tapes, the group's widely bootlegged 1967 double album with Bob Dylan.

But the 50 or so bands that practice in the South End branch of the Sound Museum were recently told by Desmond that they must vacate by today, even the big name acts.
The hunt for space is part of band culture in all cities with skyrocketing rents, places with garage bands but no garages.
Local musicians say that it's one of the less attractive aspects of the scene and that the space crunch is exacerbated in Boston by the glut of bands that come from local colleges.

Even after all these years the sparkle in his eye and the enthusiasm in his voice were clearly evident when he talked about the Cal Band.
The band has proved once again that it is more than an athletic sideshow: that it is, in fact, a welded and finished group of trained musicians.
He compared the USC band to a vaudeville show, with balloons, confetti, pistols, and stunts which had no relation to the spirit of the football game that it was supposed to supplement; in contrast, he said the California Band was like a chorus from a grand opera for its musical excellence, drilling, and coordination.

Even's unabashed devotion to '60s and '70s Anglo pop has shone through ever since the release of their debut LP, Less Is More, in 1996.
Any band whose set list includes entries such as “Bowie in My Dreams” and “We Are the Purple Nazz” (the latter a clever appropriation of Todd Rundgren's “Open My Eyes” riff) is woefully out of sync with the rest of the modern world.
While Even continue to build a respectable following on their own turf — and recently signed on with Roadshow Music, the distribution and promotional brain behind Killing Heidi, Savage Garden, and others — Naylor is keen to follow in the footsteps of his internationally renowned countrymen.

The Even Dozen Jug Band eventually fell apart when the members--many who were very young--chose staying in school over hitting the road to promote the group.
