Youth crew - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Youth crew is a sub-genre of hardcore punk that was most popular from approximately 1986 to 1990, primarily in New York City and, to a lesser degree, Los Angeles.
The Youth Crew "look", as seen in the wardrobe of seminal straight edge bands such as Chain of Strength and Youth of Today was more remniscent of what one would expect a fraternity member or stereotypical "preppy" person to look like than someone involved with punk rock.
The use of the number 88 in Youth Crew Hardcore circles is meant to reference that year in particular, and is absolutely, entirely unrelated to the use of that number by Nazi groups.

Update 1996 for The GLB Factor in the Youth Suicide Problem
As a result of the GLB youth education occurring in Calgary, it was noted that "gay and lesbian youth were not legally protected from discrimination," which is related to serious child and youth abuse problems, even in schools.
These youth were exceptional actors, which is a common attribute of GLB youth who must often act for survival reasons in their families, schools, and peer groups.
Even the Bagley study was not done with this objective in mind, but the related data did permit, for the first time in North America, to have "the homosexuality factor" in youth suicide problems confirmed, at least in a stratified random sample of young adult males.

 ND: Youth as Resources
There are countless other stories of YAR youth from all segments of society, and from all types of backgrounds, who have become engaged in youth-led community service-carrying out projects they have designed themselves to improve their communities and solve social problems.
Their views-that youth generate more problems than solutions and/or that youth should merely be recipients of community services-were among the misconceptions we hoped to change.
Youth not only made significant changes in their communities, but experienced changes in themselves: enhanced self-esteem, new leadership skills, a sense of being a valued member of the community, of making a difference in others' lives.

In the midst of their tonal shifts and sonic experimentation is a recurring penchant for quiet, even one filled with noise, as if they were worried about disturbing their neighbors.
