This P-40 Warhawk sports the traditional "shark" face used by the "American Volunteer Group" commanded by General Claire Chennault and popularly known as the "Flying Tigers." OF ROBERT D. The Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon originally opened on November 15, 1991, the dream of Evergreen International Aviation Founder and CEO Delford M. Smith and his son, U. Air Force Captain Michael King Smith.
Captain Smith was killed in an auto accident in 1995, and the museum was renamed in his memory as the Captain Michael King Smith Evergreen Aviation Educational Institute.
This replica of that airplane was built by Century Aviation in Wenatchee, Washington from plans prepared by the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum from the original plane.

Evergreen lawyers say that Schaub's claims are "one made-up story after another" and that the museum, best known as the home of Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose, wouldn't exist without Smith's generosity.
Jay Goffman, a New York attorney representing the museum, added that Schaub was fired by the museum's board after it was presented with a lengthy report about Schaub's background and his actions as president.
Evergreen charges the museum $1 a year for its display space and provides office space to museum staff at no charge, Goffman said.
