 Descnedents: Everything Sucks
Everything Sucks is a great album, with the opener and title track 'Everything Sux' demonstrating that this isn't your average pop-punk band.
And the rest of the album takes you on a ride of plenty of styles, from classic love pop-punk songs, to the afore mentioned, under-a-minute songs, to the harder hitting music and vocals of 'Caught', to the darker style of 'She Loves Me'.
For anyone who thinks that Blink182 are the be all, end all of pop-punk, let me introduce you to the Descendents.

An Interview with Drummer Bill Stevenson of the Descendents
The most recent Descendents album, Everything Sucks, has managed to please both old and new fans with its patented mix of fast power chords, hummable melodies and light-hearted lyrics.
Once upon a time, The Descendents used to claim that they "couldn't sell out a telephone booth." Alongside the more political bands of the late '70s and early '80s, such as Black Flag and The Circle Jerks, The Descendents were a weird new phenomenon.
The Descendents changed their name when Milo left the band in 1987 ("seduced by the fast-track lifestyle of biochemistry," as the band's bio puts it).

 CMT.com : Descendents : Biography
Somewhat surprisingly, Auckerman and Stevenson re-formed the Descendents in 1996 with All bassist Karl Alvarez and guitarist Stephen Egerton; in addition to mounting a tour, the group recorded a new album, Everything Sucks.
When the Descendents resurfaced in 1981, they were a four-piece fronted by vocalist Milo Auckerman, a beloved figure within the hardcore community who infused the group's identity with both unmitigated teen angst and a healthy dose of goofball humor.
Formed in 1979, the Descendents ' first lineup consisted of vocalist/guitarist Frank Navetta, vocalist/bassist Tony Lombardo, and drummer Bill Stevenson; initially sporting an edgy power pop sound inspired by the Buzzcocks, the group issued a debut single, "Ride the Wild," and then promptly vanished from sight.

 Amazon.co.uk: Music: Everything Sucks
This album is a great return to form from hardcore/punk legends the Descendents.
The fact that the Descendents didn't follow Green Day, The Offspring et al to dizzying fame is either testament to their what must have been inhumanly strong integrity or a gross miscarriage of musical justice.
It has everything you would expect from a decent punk record, but what matters is the songs, which are second to none.

On March 23rd 2004 the Descendents released "Cool to be you", their first full-length album since 1996's “Everything sucks”.
The album was their first release on Fat Wreck Chords and was recorded at The Blasting Room.
It’s true that the Descendents have been a major part in the lives of punk music lovers all over the country but especially so with kids from the South Bay.

 dallasobserver.com Music Don't call it a comeback 1996-10-31
After seeing the Sex Pistols spit and sneer their way across America, it might be easy for jaded mosh pit denizens and music critics alike to dismiss the new Descendents album, Everything Sucks, as yet another moneymaking scheme aimed at the ears and wallets of the burgeoning suburban mall punk population.
Everything Sucks sounds like Aukerman never left, touring the country with the rest of the guys in the band's refurbished school bus instead of cooped up in a lab.
Rather, the Descendents (and their alter ego ALL) have been toiling in the shadows for the past 18 years, cranking out album after album, not giving a damn if the records sold one copy or a million.

PUNKWAVE recensione Descendents - Everything Sucks

What made Everything Sucks really good was that it blended fast paced punk rock songs with poppier tracks and the blend mixed an equal blend of the two and was actually an incredible record.
I’ve listened to Everything Sucks, Hallraker, and Somery and in all of those albums his drumming kept getting better and I have to admit that his drumming is a definite highlight in this release because he adds a lot of energy to Karl Alvarez and Egerton’s energetic vibes.
My friend heard from one of his other friends that the album totally sucked, but I just shrugged it off and bought it anyway because I thought that I would like all of The Descendents’ work.

In Music We Trust - Descendents: Everything Sucks
Everything Sucks starts off with a fast paced punk anthem called "Everything Sux." Is it a title track?
My favorite track on the album, "We," is a very addictive pop-punk tune Milo wrote for his wife.
With the hooky guitar, the beat of the drums, and the bass, but then when the vocals enter and the track picks up, you are lost inside the world of Descendents.

Munnezza - Recensioni / Descendents "Cool To Be You"

Cool To Be You by Descendents CD
On their first album since their 1996 reunion record, EVERYTHING SUCKS, '80s punk icons the Descendents unleash a fierce set of songs that fits seamlessly with their well-honed, melodic yet rocked-out sound.
Kids'll LOVE it tho, probably, so if you're still in high school ya might wanna scoop this one up; if you remember the Descendents from when you were in school, though, trust me- it just aint the same anymore (you really can't go home again).
Good enough for me. These guys are wonderful song writers and this album rocks.

 All: Mass Nerder: Pitchfork Review
When the Descendents decided to reunite in 1996, many questioned the fate of All, an intentionally more progressive outfit that was born from the ashes of the Descendents after their lead vocalist, Milo Aukerman, decided to pursue a scientific career in 1988.
All and the Descendents are at their best when they kick back a little and break into sensitive song, and Mass Nerder contains enough examples of this to make it a meaningful listen.
To his credit, Chad's songs represent some of the strongest on the album; he's even capable of writing a honky-tonk song like "Honey Peeps" without it coming across as repulsive.

 Epitaph Records
The tracks "Everything Sucks," "This Place," and "Coffee Mug" are classic Descendents, raging along at the speed of sound, while "I'm the One", "Sick-O-Me," and "She Loves Me" are anthems of the "girl-song" milieu.
Produced by Bill and Stephen at the band's own studio in Ft. Collins, CO (aptly dubbed The Blasting Room), "Everything Sucks" picks up EXACTLY where the Descendents left off.
On an undisclosed date in 1996, deemed by some as Science's Finest Hour, Milo hung up his lab coat and the Descendents began work on a new LP.

The only complaint about this album is that some of the songs do sound similar to one another, but still a cool album...
Any Millencolin fan should have this album, and anyone who is thinking of buying a Millencolin album should go for this as their first.
This album is a must for NoFX fans, and people who have been impressed with bands like Green Day/Blink 182 and The Offspring.

Buy.com - Descendents Everything Sucks CD
From their recording debut in 1979 till their breakup in 1987 and mutation into the equally fierce All, Descendents shot out album after album of tight, concise punk.
Unlike many of the bands who followed in their footsteps, Descendents add a welcome touch of sardonic humor to their existential rancor, making you laugh along with the bleak narrative of the title tune, even as you empathize with the poor sap whose life is in shreds.
Along with Black Flag, the Circle Jerks and others, Descendents were founding fathers of California punk, popularizing a brand of hardcore that was singularly West Coast--streamlined, with equal amounts of aggression and tuneful popcraft.

fsunews.com - All about to rock
Dave Smalley replaced Milo on vocals and the Descendents would become All until 1996, when members reunited with Milo for a new Descendents album (Everything Sucks) and another tour.
Currently Stevenson, Alvarez and Egerton have two new records to release in the fall, but are unsure if one will be packaged as a 'new' Descendents album.
The seeds of All were planted back in 1978 with the loose formation of the Descendents.

 Punknews.org Descendents - Everything Sucks
The Descendents always have cranked out impressive albums, worth more than the adoration of the local College radio station listeners - but with Everything Sucks, Karl, Steve, Bill and Milo have shown that the old skool is still the only skool.
Brett Gurewitz even considers this to be one, if not the most, important albums to be on Epitaph records.
this has to be one of the worst albums i have ever bought.

All / Descendents: Live Plus One
Two live albums for the price of one, tell me how that is a bad deal, especially when the two bands performing are All and, one of my favorite bands of all time, the Descendents.
I tend to listen to the Descendents disc the most, however, but that is simply because they are one of those bands responsible for my love of punk rock and I like Milo's singing more.
Soundwise, both albums are of excellent quality, but then again, what live albums nowadays are not of excellent quality.

 Descendents
Everything Sucks is not a new Descendents album, it's a new ALL album, in the same sense that the first ALL album was simply a new Descendents album without Milo.
Everything Sucks is probably the best ALL album ever made.
With only two and a half songs written by Milo, it's almost as if the band expects his reappearance to rejuvenate them, and you know what?

 Feature Artist: DESCENDENTS
Hey everythings gonna be okay (We've got it made together)." The basic theme of us against the world and "we've got it made" is one of the most positive songs on the album.
Since this album was released at the end of September, there have been dozens of reviews, ruminations, opinions and histories of the DESCENDENTS published in just about every conceivable place.
Overall, this is a pretty decent pop punk album, with all the energy, melodies, lyrics and themes you would expect from the DESCENDENTS.
