Kissin plays around 40 concerts a year, which is one possible explanation for the fact that he never seems to tire of playing the piano.
This was in 1982, in the so-called Composer House in Moscow.

Kissin has a sister who is some 11 years his senior learning the piano and when he was a toddler.
Kissin also told us about his early experience with the piano: the first year, only some 20 min per day and then a year later an hour and then the third year, 4 hours a day.
But Kissin is still young and he has started to play chamber music, as depicted by the clip here, with more mature musicians like Gidon Kremer and the Hagans etc with whom he'll sure progress fast.

Evgeny Kissin is quite possibly the best child to hit the world's stage, receiving international acclaim for his performance of the chopin concertos at age 12, since Josef Hoffman at the turn of the century.
Kissin has done it again, surprising his listeners in the most unusual places (I'm thinking of the tender passages of the Paganini Variations and the funeral march of the Chopin Sonata on earlier recordings).
Kissin departs, I can only suppose deliberately, from his previous rhythmic finesse and pecks at the rhythm in a way I can't really get on with, particularly in the second and fourth of his selection - I heard Rattle give the former as an encore in the orchestrated version and it was another experience entirely.

RECITAL REVIEW : Kissin-- Serious Show Business By Paul Hersh (Evgeny Kissin, February 12, 1999)
In an all-Chopin recital at Davies Hall on Friday, Evgeny Kissin revealed himself to be a virtuoso pianist who has clearly etched conceptions of the works he performs.
Kissin seemed to see this work as a romantic Venetian trifle, a genre piece, wholly lacking the depth, and the more searching lyricism actually to be found there.
Kissin's view of this movement was at the center of his conception of the entire sonata.

Maurizio Pollin and Evgeny Kissin   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-29)
He takes 32 minutes, as opposed to Kissin's 37 -- just about the same timings as Alfred Cortot's legendary 1933 recording, but where Cortot seems impassioned, Pollini sounds merely headlong, though the G-minor's second theme is tender and the coda suitably stormy.
In the F-minor, the first theme's bass line is irritatingly mechanical (Kissin has the same problem), and the big crisis at bar 125 sounds muddy (too much pedal?).
This is a more mature reading than Kissin's but also more guarded, though I found that by the third listen it was beginning to open up.

Extraordinary Evgeny Kissin Dances Across The Keys (washingtonpost.com)
Evgeny Kissin reaffirmed his stature as one of the world's great artists Wednesday night when he played the first piano recital ever presented by the Music Center at Strathmore.
After all, Kissin, born in 1971, was already an amazing pianist before he entered his teens (a recording of the two Chopin concertos, made in Moscow when he was 12, bears this out), and his playing has only grown deeper and more thoughtful in the two intervening decades.
It was spectacular playing on every level, and Kissin was rewarded with an impassioned standing ovation, which he in turn rewarded with four encores.

Kissin electrifies every piece he touches with his dramatic and thrilling artistry, and he's even better live than he is on C.D. There are a number of great pianists in the world, and I have heard many of them perform; but there is something uniquely inspiring about Evgeny Kissin.

Hopefully, a mature and successful artist, but in most cases the excitement of earlier triumphs is never quite recaptured, and in some unfortunate examples, the charm of naive talent gives way to pretense and even crisis.
Kissin's fame was forged in the very hearth of great pianism, Moscow, where he astonished a supremely sophisticated audience with back-to-back performances of the two Chopin concertos at the age of 12.
Kissin's technical control of the piano is complete and utterly natural, and so it is just a matter of what he wishes to make of it.

Barely a phrase goes by in the first movement where the pianist doesn’t insert little pauses and ritards in an effort to make you believe that this is a profoundly introspective and moving work.
Kissin is due to play a Schubert duo recital with new BSO music director James Levine next season, and if the evidence of this disc is anything to go by, one hopes that the conductor will have the upper hand.
