Rules of evidence are, as the name indicates, the rules by which a court determines what evidence is admissible at trial.
Rules of evidence also allocate among the parties the burden of producing evidence and the burden of persuading the court.
The Federal Rules of Evidence also address the admissibility of hearsay, oral testimony, and Article V of the Federal Rules of Evidence and Division Eight of the California Evidence Code.

A Critique of Douglas Theobald's "29 Evidences for Macroevolution"
Lawyer, Churches of Christ minister, and young-earth creationist Ashby Camp argues that the evidence is insufficient to establish that all organisms share the same biological ancestor.
None of the evidence assumes that natural selection is sufficient for generating adaptations or the differences between species and other taxa.

 Evidence (.NET Framework Developer's Guide)
Evidence is the information that the common language runtime uses to make decisions based on security policy.
Common forms of evidence include digital signatures and the location where code originates, but evidence can also be custom-designed to represent other information that is meaningful to the application.
Other evidence, such as an assembly's digital signature, is inherent in the code itself and can come from the loader or a trusted application domain host.

 Digital Evidence - Computer Forensics
In authenticating the chat room text files, the prosecution presented testimony from Tank’s co-conspirator Riva, who explained how he created the logs with his computer and stated that the printouts appeared to be an accurate representation of the chat room conversations among members of the Orchid Club.
Specifically, the government “presented evidence sufficient to allow a reasonable juror to find that the chat room log printouts were authenticated.”[6]
Interestingly, Tank argued on appeal that the Government was required to conduct a computer forensic analysis on Riva’s hard drive to ensure that the files in question were not materially altered by Riva prior to the seizure.

 Guide to GO Evidence Codes
Note that these evidence codes are intended for use in conjunction with GO terms, and should not be considered in isolation from the terms.
For every evidence category, there is room for curators to exercise judgement about the quality of the evidence, and how well it supports annotation to a node within each ontology.
This hierarchy should not be interpreted as a rigid ranking of evidence types; users can and should form their own conclusions as to the reliability of each type of evidence and each individual annotation.

Digital Photography as Legal Evidence   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
(5) Although the integrity of visual evidence has always been open to question, as noted by the court in Cunningham, (6) statutory and common law evidence doctrines developed in response to the problem, and photographs are now routinely admitted into evidence in both criminal and civil trials.
Unless the photograph is admitted by stipulation of the parties, the party seeking to introduce the photograph into evidence must be prepared to present testimony that the photograph is accurate and correct.
No matter what doctrine is employed to justify admission of computer data into evidence, if it is offered for its truth and forms the basis of a controlling issue in the case, it must still satisfy the best evidence rule.

Panel Ignored Evidence on Detainee (washingtonpost.com)
The three military officers on the panel, whose identities are kept secret, said in papers filed in federal court that they reached their conclusion based largely on classified evidence that was too sensitive to release to the public.
In fact, that evidence, recently declassified and obtained by The Washington Post, shows that U.S. military intelligence and German law enforcement authorities had largely concluded there was no information that linked Kurnaz to al Qaeda, any other terrorist organization or terrorist activities.
While attorneys for Guantanamo Bay detainees have frequently complained that their clients are being held based on thin evidence, Kurnaz's is the first known case in which a panel appeared to disregard the recommendations of U.S. intelligence agencies and information supplied by allies.

Lots of poor quality evidence does not add up to strong evidence, just as many cups of weak coffee cannot be combined into a strong cup of coffee.
I propose not; the evidence suggests that there are enough sources of error (bad data, flawed methodological assumptions, mistaken identifications, poor memory recall, hoaxing, etc.) that there does not have to be (nor is likely to be) a hidden creature lurking amid the unsubstantiated cases.

Therefore, there is no actual evidence that evolution has occurred either in the past or the present.

Scientific evidence for survival of consciousness after death
An even more fascinating phenomenon occurs when the experiencer actually appears in spirit to someone, usually a loved one, during their NDE and it is verified to be true by the experiencer and the loved one.
It is evidence such as this, if scientifically controlled, that can provide absolute scientific proof that consciousness can exist outside of the body.
A scientifically controlled NDE that can be repeated which provides such evidence would be the scientific discovery of all time.

The evidence that HIV causes AIDS
Whole or partial HIV genomes have been detected in numerous AIDS patients, using a technique called PCR (the same technology is used to find DNA evidence with which to convict murderers or to settle paternity suits, as well as to detect the germs that cause hepatitis, tuberculosis and other diseases).
However, there is no evidence that anti-HIV drugs cause the severe immune deficiency typical of AIDS, and there is abundant evidence that currently recommended courses of antiretroviral therapy can improve the length and quality of life of HIV-positive people.
As the next section explains, there is no evidence that deterioration in diet or living standards can explain AIDS in Africa, which appears to be a totally new disease.

 Computer Forensic Documentation
Many computer cases now go to trial and the potential exists for the computer evidence to be subjected to close legal scrutiny by the defense counsel, the court and even the jury.
Computer evidence issues may be extremely complex to a jury and it is the job of the forensic computer specialist to make complex technical computer issues seem simple.
Furthermore, it also makes it difficult to rebut claims by the defense lawyer that the evidence was not tampered with by the police, etc. I always recommend to my students that the source files, text search files, output files and forensic software be archived on the same storage device until after trial.

Hutton Inquiry Web Site - Evidence
During the first phase of the Inquiry, Lee Hughes, the Secretary to the Inquiry, formally submitted all material provided by the parties as evidence.
Material submitted by the parties during the second phase of the Inquiry (after 15 September) has not been published on this website, unless it was referred to by counsel in the course of the hearings.
Lord Hutton has taken the view that any material which was not deemed important enough to be used by any of the counsel during the second phase is not evidence, and thus has no part in his considerations.

 Evidence Supporting Continental Drift
To him, the presence of identical fossil species along the coastal parts of Africa and South America was the most compelling evidence that the two continents were once joined.
Wegener suggested that the continents simply plowed through the ocean floor, but Harold Jeffreys, a noted English geophysicist, argued correctly that it was physically impossible for a large mass of solid rock to plow through the ocean floor without breaking up.
Recent evidence from ocean floor exploration and other studies has rekindled interest in Wegener's theory, and lead to the development of the theory of plate tectonics.

Ninety-nine percent of the time you will need to make some sort of claim and use evidence to support it, and your ability to do this well will separate your papers from those of students who see assignments as mere accumulations of fact and detail.
You can often use more than one type of evidence within a paper, but make sure that within each section you are providing the reader with evidence appropriate to each claim.

Evidence the rover found in a rock outcrop led scientists to the conclusion.
The water evidence from the rocks' physical appearance comes in at least three categories, said Dr. John Grotzinger, sedimentary geologist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge: indentations called "vugs," spherules and crossbedding.
Pictures from the rover's panoramic camera and microscopic imager reveal the target rock, dubbed "El Capitan," is thoroughly pocked with indentations about a centimeter (0.4 inch) long and one-fourth or less that wide, with apparently random orientations.

In sum, the evidence presented by McDowell and Wilson is simply too inconclusive to justify the conclusion that the church fathers had independent sources of information.
There is no evidence of such a police report and there is no evidence that Christian preaching to the Jews led to hostilities which in turn led to the Jews' expulsion from Rome.
Since we have no evidence that the historicity of Jesus or his crucifixion were questioned in the first three centuries, we should not be surprised that the passage was never quoted until the fourth century.
