The Evil Dead - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Evil Dead (also known as The Book of The Dead, Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead and The Evil Dead, the Ultimate Experience in Grueling Terror) is a 1981 horror film directed and written by Sam Raimi, starring Bruce Campbell.
In response to this homage, a scene from "Evil Dead" is visible on a television screen in Nightmare on Elm Street.
This movie may be seen as a non-canon title in the Evil Dead series because it concerns Campbell being mistaken for Ash by fans of the movies who force him to fight real Deadites in their hometown.

The Evil Dead Movies & the Decline of the American Horror Film
Arguably, Evil Dead is a part of a modern Golden Age of Horror that held reign through the late 70's and early 80's, a golden age that owed its existence to the profitability of Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Evil Dead doesn't take any longer to get to its horrific setpieces than most other movies - the first act, roughly the first 25 minutes, are taken up introducing the characters and the situation.
This is the first of the Evil Dead movies that actually has time for character development for its protagonist, and it's unfortunate that this development all goes toward proving that Ash is a jerk...and I find it hard to cheer for a jerk.

In Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness Ash isn't as much raised to the level of an icon as reduced to the level of an icon, and then reduced further to the satirization of an icon.
If The Evil Dead was all we had of Raimi, we could write him off as a cynic, but with that which has followed it shows us somebody who has consistently denied his heart and his soul for popular success and shallow "Ain't It Cool News" fanboy adulation.
