Just a quick comment on the chart of submarines: The US does have 18 SSBNs, but the number of SSNs has been cut from 115 to 56, and 4 of those are special operations or trials boats.
There will be a USS Pittsburgh SSN 720 Reunion in July 2001 (all crews).
The Perch was recently the subject of an article in both Naval History magazine and Naval Institute Proceedings I would enjoy hearing from anyone having knowledge of the Perch and her crew.

Served onboard USS SEAWOLF (SSN 575) 1/56 to 8/58, USS SARDA (SS 488) 3/60 to 8/60 and USS ALEXANDER HAMILTON (SSBN 617) GOLD 12/62 to 9/66.
