EXARCH - LoveToKnow Article on EXARCH   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
In the ecclesiastical organization the exarch of a diocese (the word being here used of the political division) was in the 4th and 5th centuries the same as primate.
The title of Exarch was also formerly given in the Eastern Church to a general or superior over several monasteries, and to certain ecclesiastics deputed by the patriarch of Constantinople to collect the tribute payable by the Church to the Turkish government.
In the modern Greek Church an exarch is a deputy, or legate a lalere, of the patriarch, whose office it is to visit the clergy and churches in the provinces allotted to him.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Exarch
The best-known case is that of the Exarch of Italy, who, after the defeat of the Goths, ruled from Ravenna (552-751) in the name of the emperor at Constantinople.
A few cases, such as that of the Archbishop of Lyons, whom the Emperor Frederick I named Exarch of Burgundy in 1157, are rare exceptions.
In Eastern Christendom an exarch is a bishop who holds a place between that of patriarch and that of ordinary metropolitan.

Striking Scorpion Exarch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Continuous and rigorous training have enabled Exarchs to improve their fighting skills to a point that they not only fight better than the rest of their squad, they also can have special "warrior powers".
Incorporated into the Striking Scorpion Exarch’s helmet is the Mandiblaster, which allows a special strength 4 attack on a roll of 4+ in hand to hand at initiative 8 (Initiative 6 +2).
Due to the greater skill of the Exarchs, is a good idea (most of the time) to keep the Exarch at the front of your troops so that the Exarch can put their skills to better use.

Exarch Impressions - PC News at GameSpot   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Exarch mixes fantasy elements with technology and sci-fi, so expect a nice mix of medieval-style weapons like swords and axes along with firearms, cyber implants, and powered armor.
The character demonstrated to us was a male wraith, with both a sword and a shotgun (which was used to nice effect against the mechanical skeletons in the caverns--each blast knocked the skeletons to the ground in a satisfying manner).
The game is still early in development, but the developers of Exarch are aiming to create a game that will be among the easiest massively multiplayer role-playing games to pick up.

Swooping Hawk Exarch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Exarchs are warriors that have dedicated themselves completely to their "aspect".
In addition to being highly trained in hand to hand combat, the Swooping Hawk Exarch is equipped with "Swooping Hawk Wings" that have the same properties as a jump pack and also allows the wearer to "deep strike" in any mission.
An Exarch equipped with Web of Skulls combined with the exarch Power of "Sustained Asault" will enable the squad of Swooping Hawks he is with, a much better chance of inflicting damage to well armoured foes such as Space Marines.

In the civil administration of the Roman Empire, the exarch was the governor of any important province, as the Exarch of Italy at Ravenna (552-751).
The term came gradually to be restricted to the metropolitans of Ephesus, Caesarea, and Heraclea.
In the West the title of exarch has disappeared, being replaced by "vicar Apostolic" and "primate." In the East the title is given to a bishop who holds a place between that of patriarch and of ordinary metropolitan.
