		I just looked over the second article on the Excelsior in The Magazine and although they never state it explicitly, it is clear that the original design goal was for a brutish, big, oppressive-looking ship.
		It is also possible that the Excelsiors lasted much longer because of political or budgetary concerns that kept them in production longer than the refit Constitutions.

		If we use the 'type' designation, we can reduce those variant classes to zero (moving Shelley class to Curry type might be a good thing to do in that case).
