As many of you know I use the exclamation mark sparingly and even wrote an essay on the subject to encourage others to do the same, but I’ve made a discovery.
A point is a dot, like a period, so an exclamation point would simply be ‘.’ and a rather poor excuse for an exclamation.
Exclamation ‘mark’ is British English and exclamation ‘point’ is U.S. English.

I still have an exclamation point at the driver in my device manager, ther are no other mapped drives or anything in conflict with Z drive.
The device manager has an excalmation point on the virtual drive and the properties applet states that the device cannot start.

As I endlessly rewrote the article, I realized that I've fully embraced the ALL CAPS STANDARD as a means of conveying what is traditionally done with an exclamation point.

Sure, from the Smalltalk point of view this is even more silly than from other dynamic languages, as Smalltalk is duck-typing all the way down.
Give the compiler a hint on what types are used and the compiler can just put type checks in the front of the functions and optimize all he wants internally and directly work on the floating point stack of the floating point engine of the CPU.
Same with integer arithmetics and integer overflows - say you won't overflow (or if you will overflow, your application will know how to handle it) and the compiler will be able to produce much faster code.

I'm giving Beast of Yucca Flats a few points for its amusing narration, but I can only recommend this film to hardcore B-movie enthusiasts.
