Topic: Executive Council of Alberta

Executive Council - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Until the advent of responsible government, Executive Councils existed primarily to advise the governor of the colony, dominion or realm.
These Councils have almost the same functions as the Privy Council in the United Kingdom, and accordingly, decisions of the Cabinet gain legal effect by being formally adopted by the Executive Council.
Consistent with wider Commonwealth practice, Canadian provinces have Executive Councils which are usually referred to informally as Cabinets and are headed by a provincial Premier.

It is superior to Legislative Councils and Legislative Assemblies and functions as a quasi-Privy Council and therefore by extension is usually the equivalent of the Cabinet.
There is, however a Canadian Cabinet at the level of the federal government and not an executive council.
