While exergaming has been alive in the commercial consciousness as a hot new video game field for some time, the recent crossing of such ventures into the mainstream medical world indicates that exergaming itself may be on the threshold of a new and dramatic step into the average household.
A 2004 Harvard study showed that obesity, regardless of patient activity level, was a critical factor in early death incidence, indicating that exercise, though crucial, is one part of a formula for longer life.
And with a recent study by the nationally-known Mayo Clinic releasing results in early January on the effectiveness of exergaming models compared to regular gaming, the medical community is becoming increasingly aware of the advantages of advocating for healthier lifestyles through interactive media.
