The latter was a fantastic game with an 8-way firing joystick as well as an 8-way moving joystick where you played a sheriff and had to rescue your love from mexican bandits.
The original Sorcerer dates from 1978 and has novel features that lifted it up and away from the likes of the Tandy TRS80 Model 1 such as a user-defineable character set and a handy thing to have at the time - an S100 bus interface.
It was also arguably the first home computer to feature language ROMs in cartridge cases, in the case of the Sorcerer these were 8-track cartridge cases that had been gutted and replaced with CBASIC ROMs on dedicated circuit boards.

There was a java sorcerer emulator that was on the net a few years ago, but I always had problems with it, so I lost interest.
Hmm, here it is: http://www.liaquay.co.uk/ It runs OK; one problem is that the emulator, in an attempt to be faithful to the original, maps the keys to return the same symbols that he original machine did.

The Sorcerer seems to have been more popular in Europe than in the U.S. - CompuData distributed the Sorcerer in Europe while Exidy sold them in the U.S. After Exidy went bankrupt, CompuData, which had changed its name to Tulip Computers, took-over and continued marketing the Sorcerer in Europe.
There isn't much inside of the Exidy S-100 chasis, just a power supply and six S-100 expansion slots, but this is all there is to any S-100 computer - all of the logic and circuitry are on the S-100 cards which plug into the slots.

My dad, a labcoat wearing mad scientist working for the government funded CSIRO, first bought an Exidy Sorcerer in either 1979 or 1980 when he had to write a research work.
The Exidy's W key failed only a couple of years on (obviously Dad's book involved a lot of work with chemicals with Ws in their name) rendering the entire Exidy setup (which had by this stage cost as much as a small car) inoperable as no spare parts were available!
Today the Exidy is dead and buried, the VZ300 is hopefully dead and buried, but we still have the Ferguson, the terminal, and the Escon-enabled Selectric typewriter/printer.
