New Age Comstockery: Exon Vs The Internet
The Exon bill was incorporated as an amendment to S. 652, a comprehensive telecommunications reform proposal that was passed by the Senate Commerce Committee in March.
The Exon language was approved by the full Senate on June 14 by a vote of 84 to 16.
Like Senator Exon's amendment, which was inspired by a desire to protect his granddaughter, the Comstock law-- indeed, all obscenity law of the period--was predicated on a perceived need to protect the most impressionable members of the population.

  The Exon/Gene Search Engine
You specify a set of exons and their length, and the search engine generates a random sequence, searches for the exons in order (and hence the complete gene), and reports the results.
Although the exon specifications are limited to 10 characters, codon and animo acid degeneracies make a search for a 10-nt exon mathematically equivalent to finding a 185-long exon with degeneracies.
If you have more than one longest exon (i.e., two or more of the same longest length), it is less likely you will find them all in the random DNA because the amount of DNA is computed assuming there is just one longest exon.

Many proteins are made of several exons which are separated by ‘intervening’ regions of DNA, known as introns, which do not code for proteins.
The second is a set of exons containing information that is translated into the amino acid sequence of a protein.
On the “intron-late” model, intron evolution is an example of convergent evolution, where certain exon spaces have dispositions to become introns.

New exons can arise from gene duplication [2] and exon duplication [3], but perhaps the most intriguing process by which exons can be born is exonization by exaptation, where genomic sequences that did not originally function as exons are adopted into exonic sequences [4].
Alu-derived internal exons are almost always alternatively spliced, allowing the original isoform to coexist with the new one and preventing the deleterious effects of introducing a new protein at the expense of the original one [5,8].
This exon is the eighth exon in the nuclear prelamin A recognition factor (NARF), a protein that interacts with the carboxyl-terminal tail of prelamin A and localizes to the nuclear lamina [20].

An exon is any region of DNA within a gene that is transcribed to the final messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule, rather than being spliced out from the transcribed RNA molecule.
Exon trapping or 'gene trapping' is a molecular biology technique that exploits the existence of the intron-exon splicing to find new genes.
The first exon of a 'trapped' gene splices into the exon that is contained in the insertional DNA.

Alterations in exon 1 of c-myc and expression of p62c-myc in cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
METHODS: c-myc exon 1 PCR on HPV positive and negative stage I and II cervical squamous cell carcinomas was performed using primers designed to fragile sites in exon 1 of the c-myc oncogene, which are frequently involved in translocation phenomena and deletions in other neoplasms.
CONCLUSIONS: Alterations in exon 1 of c-myc occur in a minority of cervical cancers and there was increased expression of p62 in a cohort of HPV positive and negative cervical squamous cell carcinomas.

 Brig. General Arthur E. Exon
In 1947 Exon was a Lt.-Colonel stationed at Wright Field at the time of the Roswell crash and heard of the incident at that time.  He said he also flew over the area of the crash some months later.
According to Exon, once the nature of the crash at Roswell was understood, the information would have been passed up the chain of command.  Ramey probably called the Army Chief of Staff, Dwight Eisenhower.
Exon named several others, including James Forrestal in his role as Secretary of War (later Defense), Stuart Symington, at that time the Under Secretary of War for Air, and President Truman.  Given the nature of the crash and the preliminary conclusions being drawn, the president had to be included.

Detecting constitutive exons and larger insertion events will be best achieved by standard probes optimized on the full length of the exonic sequence.

 Exon Probabilities
This probability, P(E), is defined as the sum of the probabilities under the model of all possible "parses" (gene structure descriptions) which contain the exact exon E in the correct reading frame.
The probability of each predicted exon calculated in this fashion is displayed in the second-to-last column of the text output (headed by the letter "P").
This was demonstrated by partitioning exons predicted in the Burset & Guigó (1996) set of 570 vertebrate gene sequences on the basis of the exon probability and then determining accuracy statistics for each group separately.
