Scotsman.com News - Health - A taste for honey puts marmalade in shade
Honey from China had accounted for a third of the UK market, but the crisis persuaded honey-lovers to find more expensive alternatives, which they have continued to buy.
Honey’s revival has come at the expense of imported Chinese honey, which was ordered off the shelves three years ago after the banned antibiotic cholaramphericol were found in some jars.
The previous year, sales were up 9 per cent, which helped the value of honey leap by nearly 25 per cent.

Black Enterprise: Scotch vs. Irish - whiskey
Another difference is that the barley used to make irish is dried in smokeless kilns, while the barley used for Scotch is dried over peat fires, which adds to the whiskey's assertive taste.
Irish's extra distillation accounts for much of its light taste because distillation tends to extract flavors, leaving a pure, smooth distillate.
Currently, there are only five irish whiskeys available in the United States: Bushmills, Black Bush, a special and more expensive version of Bushmills; John Jameson; John Jameson 1780, a 12-year-old whiskey; and the very expensive Midleton Very Rare, which sells for about $100 a bottle.

Tokyo Vegetarian Guide: Articles about Vegetarianism
Though shojin cuisine appears simple, its taste trumps any expensive gourmet meal--and it's all accomplished using only the natural flavors of the freshest of vegetables, which are delicately seasoned.
Learning to prepare shojin cuisine is one aspect of Zen training, and the cook's entire personality, not just his cooking skill, should be reflected in the taste.
Concerning the differences between shojin and vegetarian cuisines, Hoshino said shojin should have a sixth taste in addition to the regular five tastes of bitter, sour, sweet, hot and salty.

Whether or not you believe in qualia, describing the taste of konowata is simple: it’s the taste of the sea, or more specifically, the taste of the iso.
The result is marketed in bottles that for top-class Hokkaido product can be surprisingly expensive, up to $50, although our sushi chef told us he got some konowata from Aichi Prefecture, said to be the top producer at present, which cost only $20, even with konoko dried sea cucumber ovaries mixed in.
It’s often translated as beach or seashore, but actually it’s that area of a rocky shore where land meets sea: the surf washing in and out over the rocks, crabs and tiny fish and water insects darting around and under them.

As well as caskets with removable canisters and sometimes a central glass bowl either for the mixing of tea or for sugar (another expensive item in the tea ritual), there were now containers with one or two lidded compartments lined with metal foil.
In the twentieth century America's taste returned to the more traditional silver tea caddies which were fashionable in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
